Hi, my 320i only has front speakers (crackly at that). I'm looking to enhance the sound coming from my head unit and so am looking for some advice as to what to add to the car without fitting any unsightly 6x9s.
My bro has some 6x9s and so I was thinking of fitting them under the parcel shelf and just drilling loads of holes in the shelf above to let the sound out.
Opinions??
Thanks
What speakers

get some 6" speakers rather than 6x9's they produce more bass than the normal 5.25 ones
i currently have some 6.5 inch speakers in the back of mine and they just to say fit, although im going back with some 5.25 as i'am a bit of an oem freak with certain things
ever thought of running an amp

Go to a local car audio place (or even halfords!! You don't have to buy there!!) and listen to some different speakers!!! If they sound good to you're ears, that's all that matters!!
Start at the front with the standard size (5.25") coax speakers and see what you think sounds good. Cheap and very easy to change!!!
Next step up would be components up front (5.25" and a tweeter - you can get pods to go where the door mirrors mount if you don't already have them!!). Should sound much better, for not a lot more money/effort!!
If you're old speakers are knackered, you may be surprised what an improvement just changing the speakers will be!!!
To go better than that, an amp will help a lot, but remember, it'll only ever sound as good as the source (the head unit), so it could be worth thinking about changing that - especially if it's 20 years old!!!
After that, the best improvement will be a sub in the boot - takes the low frequencies away from the front speakers, leaving them to just play the mid/top with less effort - and they will effectively go louder without distorting!!
All of the above just depends on how much you want to spend, what you want to acheive, and how much effort you put in!!!
Personally, i wouldn't bother with rear speakers - sound should come from in front of you!!!
Also, if you're speakers are crackly, i would check the wiring!! It will deteriorate over time and wouldn't have been amazing quality at the start!!!
HTH!!!

Hi, thanks for that.
The head unit is a JVC with 4x45w output so with the right speakers I'm guessing it will sound good.
Might go and have a look for some 5.25s for the front then and see how that improves my audio experience

Forgot to ask. I've not got the tweeters where the mirror adjusters would go. If I buy some from a donor car will the wires all be there ready to go?
Cheers
