Does anyone know of an E21 forum anywhere?

The reason I got into E30s was partly because my Grandad had an E21 & he needs to sell his now as he can't drive anymore (he is 90 now so fair dues!). I know this type of car will not appeal to the younger crowd but I said I'd sort it out for him so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1982 320 auto coupe, metallic light green (opalgrund? I think it said on the sticker). From what I've gathered already:

52,500 miles (last 20 yrs Mots, some recent bills) & totally original throughout
No previous owners (he bought it from new & I think he was upset when I had to drive it away at the weekend but he knew it had to go)
3 months Mot & Tax left & been garaged it's whole life
£900 on servicing/brake lines/exhaust at the last Mot alone & it's never wanted for anything during it's life, tyres all round look new as well. Chromework all looks good. Mechanically I couldn't fault it as I've driven it myself & everything works as it should. I lifted the carpet out the boot & I was amazed at the condition.

Faults - steel wheels need a good wirebrushing, front seat springs lost their spring & he got a dent right on the front of the bonnet from a recent expedition to sainsbury's (& bless him he used a touch up pen that was dark green!). The chrome square grill at the front would need replacing

With the cosmetic faults fixed I think this car would do someone proud at a classic car show. He's not looking for much & he took it to a garage & was offered £600 cash on the spot so they must know what it's worth. I've since emailed a couple of classic car co.s & both came back with similar offers of between £600-£1200 and they need to see it to give me an accurate offer but we all know they'll play down the value when I get there & they're not that close to me anyway. If everyone thinks this is all they are worth then fair dues (I don't know much about these models at all). Just thought it might appeal to someone & if I had room in my garage then I'd keep it for sentimental reasons.

I'll get some pics up on my day off on Friday.

If it in that good a condition, and you want to sell it, try the german sites, as they are fetching between £5 to £6k.

I won't get his hopes up just yet as it's not perfect. I thought it was just the 323 manual that was popular wasn't it? It's usually the manual box, biggest engine & biggest spec models that fetch the most.

Early age to have a metallic paint as well isn't it?

Hi Alex - it's a 320, not a 320i (are you psychic though - you said 320 auto low mileage before I even posted what it was?! How's did you manage that one? This is the first post I have put on the internet about it anywhere!)

most e30s and e21's owned by older people are 320 autos :)

Nice motor. I would think selling it to the trade would probably be a fair option - demand isn't high for these, but then supply isn't either, so a trade value may well eclipse what you'll get privately. Obviously you'll want to know from someone independant what a fair value is - couldn't really hazard a guess myself, but someone will be along in a minute with more knowledge than I. There are many folk, like me, who just can't resist a low miles, low owners car, no matter what it is, so I'm sure there will be a buyer in short order.

There's one of these round the corner from me that's been stood a while, I keep meaning to tap on the door and see if it's available - too much on the drive at the moment though!

nice car there !

I have been looking at alot of these online, as wanted an E21 or E28 to replace my E30. I have just picked up a great little E28 518 however (yey!!) So aint trying to buy yours !

But in having looked at many of these i have to say they go for a very varied price ! I'd agree with some of the comments above that although sort after, they are not by lots of people so prices on eBay seem to be fairly low, even for good examples like this.

I'd be really tempted to try advertising in Retro cars or similar mags as hey seem to be up for better money there !

Thanks for all the comments so far chaps. I am tempted to look abroad, as Rav335uk suggested earlier, because I found this identical model on Germany's Ebay - only differences I can tell is that it's a manual & doesn't have the bonus of a small dent in the bonnet edge (2510 Euros with 12hrs to go)!

Almost certainly - that's why I'm hoarding mine in readiness for the value explosion!! 8O It's Coming! 8O

As long as the snottiest cars are dismantled in order to keep the best cars going, I can't see a problem - it's when well kept but undesired variants are broken/scrapped purely for reasons of economy that it's a shame. Still, there ought to remain a balance - the best cars will never be thrown away.

I'll never scrap it - it's got far too much sentimental value for him & I've seen rustier 5 year old cars on the road!

Well I'm trying it out on fleabay & someone's bid the starting price already with 8 days left so hopefully it will go to a good home (no reserve on it). 35 watchers within 24hrs as well - if I had just a couple of hundred quid I'd make the bodywork look mint & drive it over to Germany myself & make a killing:
