It's not the best set up in the world, but it's at least trying to make the best of all space available, even if it encrouches on the space where your knees usually are!!

Should be able to get some proper power through them too! winkeye

Ugly and cumbersome- look too agricultural. Hide your speakers not show them off and put them in the proper place :?

Why would you want to show them off? Subtle is far more impressive... 8)

Yes they do look quite cumbersome. Although they're not as bad as some custom set ups I've seen.

I'm not sold on them either, but I reckon I could get used to them for the sake of more noise.

Off the top of my head I do remember they did 6 1/2 speaker pods for E30 doors. Do they still do them and if so are other sizes available? :?

for those who have not yet cut their rear shelf i have just fitted some 6x9 Pioneers in mine with huge magnets, managed it without cutting the car at all, i am writing a wiki on how i did it, they are visible of course.

for me 6x9's pounding at my ankles would really annoy me after a while, especialy on long journeys

I know a lot of people don't like 6x9's and this may be changing subjects also, but what else would you recommend for big sound power!? We know circles are better for producing sound but given the size of our parcel shelves we are restricted aren't we?

I like motorhead by the way if that helps. Makes the m20 seem a lot shorter than it is!

A good pair of front components (make sure they're well installed) on an amp.
No rear speakers.
Sub in the boot (doesn't have to be big!)

Done!!

In a saloon, you have a rear shelf. I put an auto acoustics mdf rear shelf in an e30 years ago with a pair of 6x9's in it and they sounded awesome. The problem comes when you have a convertible. The front kick wells are not ideal and the rear quarter panels are so restricted in space!!! This set up could cure that problem.

Not that i'd buy them but they would solve the convertible problem.

i want to see these in the flesh. i like them but you lose the door pockets
ive never had a loud stereo before . and nows my childish time

in my tourer
i have kevlar yellow 6x9 spekers on the side of the boot walls. some bigger than normal spekers cut into the touring speaker pods and a 12" slick sub in the boot.
the amps are hidden really well in the boot side doors and i just need 6x9 speaker covers for the ones in the boot

i was tempted by the door speakers because the standard size and place speakers are just to small to have bass. so i was looking into the door pods
but want to see them first

if you are into high DB systems you may want these as well as possibly a set in the rear. 2 x15" subs with plenty of power and job done or you can go the 4 x 12" route. Drop the Ohms and you're laughing.

A mate had 2 x12s, 7x10s in the rear shelf and components in the front in his E30 years ago - sounded very good.

Well I like all things loud. I don't drive around windows down with no sound insulation like the ol' corsa's do. I just some want SERIOUS volume! I know components are the best thing since sliced bread for clarity but when you're hacking down the road some serious cranking is in order!!

If you have front components and a sub, set up well, you shouldn't really be missing bass up front, as lower frequencies are non-directional. Unless you're going for a really, really serious system!!!!

No offence, but i personally see 6x9's as a bodge, when you're 17 and have no money and limited knowledge!! There are much better ways, and well installed components, can out do 6x9's!!! The installation is important!!!!!!
