I've read plenty of horror stories on here about the messes people have found lurking under their tech 2 kits and was wondering if there is anything that could be done to the paintwork before fitting the kit that would help stop it rusting?
Obviously the bits behind the kit won't be seen so they don't have to look pretty... would a thick coat of wax be of any use?

I know it's criminal but I'm thinking of fitting the ACS kit bar the sideskirts... and using the Zender skirts with the pods and arches...320Touring wrote:is this the prelift kit onto the 320i?Alyman wrote:I did think of waxoyl but I don't think that would be very reversible if I decided i wanted to change it back...

reckon some twotone funk may be a plan.
As Chris says, protect any holes properly. about the only area without rust on my 320i was the sills...and they had SE ideskirts fitted

Evening Alyman. I simply washed down any previous muck and grease under the kit and applied a coat of waxoil to the panlels. Loving the photo by the way!

There would be no chrome arches - the zender skirts actually have subtle arch extensions, I just couldn't be bothered photoshopping them on tooSanchez wrote:chrome arches, cliffy will be pleased!!!

Thanks for the offer, but I've got a full shadowline kit lying around somewhere...

dont believe all the horror stories about behind tech2 kits. i recently removed mine and found nothing but dirty white paint that buffed up lovely under all bits with some slight surface rust that was rubbed back and coated with waxoil under the cill covers.

I was hoping to avoid drilling holes if at all possible - people say that some skirts can be bonded on, but I need to look into that a bit further. I also need to examine the door pods to see how they attach - obviously the top row of clips just fit into the holes for the factory bump strips, but i'm not sure how they attach at the bottom of the door..Chris-W wrote:It's the drilled holes that kill them (yes, amongst other things) - waxoyl will never stop it, you need to prime and paint the drilled holes. So many were not, especially dealer fit...
If I do have to do some drilling i'll make sure I prime and paint the holes. Would fitting plastic/rubber grommets in the holes be a good idea?

I'm leaning towards a coat of waxoyl on the hidden panels, even though I reckon it'll be a pain to get off if I ever want to swap the Zender skirts for the ACS ones.
