Last time I looked, £500 - £2500.

Excellent compared with massively overpriced 325i sports

Are they noticeably faster than a 325i? I was looking at these and e30's when I got my first BM but I could only find rust heaps. I was told that they don't feel any quicker than a 325i so I bought a tech1 sport instead.

ive had a tech 1 and a tech 2, and an e34 535i sport and the 535i was alot faster imo.

Had both , My old sport would easily out handle my old m535 and both had good money thrown at them suspension (m535 had a m5 setup) and engine modification320ise wrote:thats what i was thinking! you get allot more performace! do they handle as well as 325i sport?
My 325 was quicker off the mark due to weight and more fun in the twistys but the 535 seemed faster from about 40mph upto about a ton , Probably the dogleg box helped
Did put them up against each other to compare .
My m535 sat comfortable at around 145mph down the autobahn last year as well with more to go
There a cheap car now but a lot on the market are rotten dogs , Took me long enough to find a good one .
Prices varie depending on spec in and out , Mileage and condition .
Take it your on about the e28 not the e34 ??

I thought M535is were only e12 or e28? I guess the 'equivalent' e34 would be a 535i Sport?Steve-E30 wrote:Had both , My old sport would easily out handle my old m535 and both had good money thrown at them suspension (m535 had a m5 setup) and engine modification320ise wrote:thats what i was thinking! you get allot more performace! do they handle as well as 325i sport?![]()

Am I right in thinking that M535is were manual only? I quite like the idea of a manual e28 535i SE, but they all seem to be autos in the small ads, so an M535i looks to be the way to go if I ever get a sharknose.

M535is are available in auto and manual and yes only E12 and E28.
Handling wise the Sport is lighter and more agile, but the E28 is not that much different, in fact with a little money spend in right places it can easily be the equivalent in that dept. As Steve said up to 40 about the same but later on the M535i is quicker. I for one would not go back
However finding a decent one is getting more difficult, 1800 rhd uk M535is to start with so not that many really. Again you can get manual SEs but virtually every 3.5 E28 for sale seems to be an M535i.

Marks one would require a lot more than your average £1500 to buy I bet! Its a lovely looking thing. Cracking colour as well, suits the car size to a T!
I do like these, but most have pretty much had it(rust), but an e34 540i ticks most of the boxes that an m535i does, and a few more BUT the e34 is just slightly too big to make it chuckable I guess, 540 e28.hmmm.

What it is worth is irrelevant tbh as I am not selling. A year ago good ones were over 3k and average ones were closer to 2k. I don't think the value has actually changed much, just the perception. As E34 M5s have dropped to not much more than that which makes these at 3k+ look expensive. If I was in a mind to sell, I would wait until the crunch is over and even more have got broken, once they start getting really rare then I would expect the values to creep up. I can certainly keep my eyes open for any that pop up for you mate.

BB its rotten though, check out the bonnet, the seller even says in the ad he doesnt want to open the bonnet because it is so bad!
Could be worth saving though as it is rare.

Jus been looking at E28's and seen both those ebay ones!
The second is pretty messy but as you say rare as hens teeth so well needs doing properly !
There seems to be a fair amount of M535's around. Seen a couple a while back with good bodys, one witha blown head gasket went for £600 which i thought was good. But the good ones fetching 2.5K ish !
Alot of people selling the 535 non M model, same engine no body kit. Still look ace with the shark nose and more of a sleeper. I fancied one of them but the insurance company is still laughing now with the 9 points so the 1.8 lil 4 pot it is for me !
