gunk and a decent paint brush for de- greasing, rinse off then use some wd40 to disperse the water

Elbow grease, and lots of it! I replaced anything that was a bit manky, like airbox, dipstick etc etc. The AFM, ICV, throttle body and inlet were just attacked with various grades of wet and dry and steel wool.

with plenty of gunk, polish back to black, a few tooth brushes, polish etc and many man hours i got my 316 looking pretty good





i'am in the process of doing the IS engine bay, ive nearly removed all the yellow stuff since this photo was taken, again back to black, gunk, rubbing compound, polish, new bolts, steam cleaner.

i also use lots of soapy water in places but do that at your own risk, i only think about the consequences when they happen

Lidl are doing cheap engine degreasing spray at the moment

Wonder how the vinegar will get on. It does amazing things with rust, I saw in another thread.

Megs Super Degreaser and All Puprpose Cleaneer both work well worked with a brush. Rinse, dry and then dress plastics/rubbers with Aerospace 303.

These are much better products than Gunk which whilst it does the job it is harsh and contains 'nasties' thus strips concrete!!!

You can tell the detailers a mile off by the products they recommend, which by the way will do a great job if you follow advise above.....

Just be careful where your spraying these de-greasing products, the last places you want to de-grease are the seams around the front panels, trapped water/road salt in these areas will soon start to eat your car away
