I have the satin black grilles on my e30, do you think it would be better looking to do the headlamp surrounds in Satin too or give that a big swerve?

What headlamp surrounds?
You mean the slats either side of the kidney grill? They're already satin black.
In any case, leave it all alone.

I guess - I thought you meant that metal frame rings of the headlamps.
They're actually part of the grill though.
I would call them the 'anterior bi-flank grille surrounds'.
I just threw mine away for some new ones, the regular matt plastic black looks fine and then when you
look up close they're caked in crap.

Goerge
Take them off. give them a wash with warm soapy water them leave them to dry.
Then go over them with a few coats of Satin.
If you don't then the freshly painted kidney's have a tendency to look out of place.
For all the time/effort required it freshens up the frontal area if nothing else.

I did think that Dave about them looking at odds with each other but on the other hand i'm not wanting to wreck a decent pair of "anterior bi-flank grille surrounds"
