Probably been asked before but the search function isn't the best on here...

How much torque/power will the IS gearbox take? Is it simmilar in design/construction to the 325 boxes?

It's going off hearsay that the rule of thumb is that the size of the box is relative to the power you can push through it

I think torque is a more important factor than power here mate.

Does this mean that an M3 gearbox (getrag 265) can only take 265 ft/lbs? Even though there are countless people running huge torque through them?

It's internet bollocks!

M3 box is built to cope with it though.. were talking about an ordinary box which wasn't built with the same standards as an M box...

Both Getrag boxes, a 240 on the IS and a 265 on the m3.

Look a similar size to me.

Are we saying that Getrag make the IS box out of cheese, or are we saying it should be able to handle nearly as much torque as an m3 one?

what engine are you planning on fitting to it, and how much abuse are you planning on giving and do you expect reliability!
Looking for an e30 in the north east!

Basically thinking of putting something not BMW based in to an E30 and i'm debating what to use as a base car. I'd like to use a BM gearbox so I don't have to modify box mounts, transmision tunnel and prop shaft. I'd like to use a coupe for the styling, however the IS and the 325 have the larger struts and rear discs. I didn't really want to have to start swapping too much over and buy other parts.

The engine that i'll be using will be V8, have 350-400 ftlb of torque and an 8k rev limit on stock internals! :D
