My compact has solid front disks, and they have had enough of my enthusiastic driving style and are now showing the classic signs of being warped.

How easy is it to swap to vented disks? I assume some of the later / heavier cars had vented disks?

I'm guessing I'll just need the calliprs themselves plus new disks and pads. I think the 15in wheels I have on at the moment were fitted to a lot of models so I hope there wouldn't be clearance issues.

I think 325/328i ones will bolt straight up

we sold some 328 sport drilled and vented discs to someone who had put a m52 engine in his compact and the brakes went on fine

Wheel size will determine what disks you can fit. TBH

What size are the wheels your currently using and are you planning on keeping them or changing them for ones of a larger diameter????

You can fit the VERY large disks and calipers from an E46 330i to the compact hubs. 325mm * 25mm I believe. You'll need 17"s though.

i want to be able to use the standard 15s in winter, and i want a cheap simple upgrade to something thats not as likely to warp.

its a 1.6 and it will be staying a 1.6 for the forseeable future. just an upgrade to something higher up the e36 chain is fine :D

unless i spot an e46 330i in a local scrappy :wink: i'll just have to have a set of winter wheels, and a set of winter brakes to match :P

Check out GSF they do some pretty good options. I had the same problem with my E36 323 and uprated the disc's to Zimmerman and pads to Padig which is recommended by most e36 drivers and they work great for me. Mine are vented, drilled and groved I think. Might be your cheapest option.
