Just wondering if anyone out there had tried one of these on their 'is' and if there were any power gains...... i heard mid and top range is improved but you sacrifice some bottom end...... Many rumours, but which is true!!

low gains are also good but once you hit 4000rpm he says his has immproved

still 120 for the IS

not been in one mate but iv heard that it is a very worthy mod as 318is' were restricted from the factory so 320i were quicker as they didnt want the IS to outsel the 320

I've got one, but I've also got a few other mods, so it's difficult to say whether the BBTB alone affected the car. I'm sure it does though!

I have a BBTB, Viper chip, K&N induction and a stainless freeflow system.

It really does scream!

Giles.

I'm based in Grimsby (no jokes), so I'm not down south very often... plus it's all on my stripped out track car that I'm taking off the road at the end of the month...

I reckon about 155bhp. Some say that with all that you could see 170bhp, but with my engine having done a healthy 185k, I doubt that it'd be anywhere near that.

Martin... a 320 TB has a single choke, where as the 318iS has twin butterflies... one larger than the other.

Edit: Damn it, he beat me to it!

The 318is cost more new than a 320i so i doubt it was restricted so that it was slower.

Alpina, i still need to send you my old TB, im really sorry for the delay. Could you PM me your address again?

Buy it! it really is worth it.

Dont know the BHP, will keep up with mrk2 sport. Beats most 2.5s with the exception of Andyps cab. (but will need to test it again since cam timing been set)

Yeah M42B18. Viper is good for the money as it raises the max RPM limit to 7k which is a performance enhancer on its own. Cant really comment on the other claimed gains.

No manifold work.

I have stock filter, stock exhaust (inc manifold)

Timed cams, chip, BBTB, electric fan, good oil, modified inlet system (removed water heater jacket) Polished inlet manifold, NGK power plugs.

Thats it i think.

About the same as mine then, apart from the cam timing, and I've got a stainless system.

Mind you, mine's stripped out completely so it's a LOT lighter, and a LOT lower!

I've got a K&N panel filter, a Viper chip and a BBTB on my iS; the chip went in first and was an immediate improvement through the whole rev range - the TB was less obvious 'til you get to higher revs, but then it did go in last.

Timed cams....

I've always wondered if this was an easy mod to do.... any hints! mine is due on the rollers again soon, and would love to see if it's better than the 146bhp i got last time!

Yes mate easy, a a bit of a rough idle but nothing you cant live with. Three new gaskets some thread locking fluid and a large spanner.

sorry for the slightly off topic but adam318i mentioned bbtb for m40. anybody know the options?

will any of the oem ones bolt on? 318iS for example? Or does anybody bore out the stock m40 one?

The manifolds may be good, but the throttle bodies need some work!

I've yet to see an IS with a cat, they all have a front resonator, which everyone thinks is a cat.

Hoshy, i think the Alpina123 guy i this site can bore out M40 TB's. Its about Ԛ£120 and you send him your old one, once you get the new one.

Dont know of anyone fitting one or what gains are possible.
