51mm struts - they cost about £30 second hand and take an hour to fit, or if he gets a rotten 2.5 donor car....
Rear drums, good at least the handbrake will work and the rear callipers cant seize!

Im looking for something thats on the road and ready to go because ive already got a mk2 escort that is getting built back up. Thats what I liked about this 320, it has a full years ticket and a LSD. Was just wanting something that I can get the back end out in on the b roads until the mk2 is ready

A 320 touring is the cheapest way of getting a decent E30.
They have normally had mature owners. All you need to do then is fit a 2.5 engine.
I needed an estate car which is why i went for a touring, mine now owes me about £700 all in and only costs £150 fully comp.
There is no alternative for the same cost, well only an old Merc estate but they are slow.

Quite rare though - only made for the 1989 model year iirc.SUMPCRACKER wrote:A 320 touring is the cheapest way of getting a decent E30.

It's all about condition - my 1 elderly owner 4-door 320i is as tight as a drum and as a result really feels like a bargain. Had I spent the same on a ratty 325i or 318is I might be less happy all round. I very rarely see a 318is for sale that doesn't look like it hasn't spent at least part of its near 20 year life being abused. I'm sure a good one is a jewel, but they don't come around in fine nick as often as those e30s that appealed to the pipe, slippers and slacks brigade.
I think most would agree that 4drs, tourings, autos and the lower powered variants generally represent better value as far as the likely longevity of the car goes.

I thought it had gone NLA and my BMW dealer said the same thing. Had to pay £6 for the shitty later type with the M in the middle.
