Have just been looking on EBAY and there'ss a 3.0L 16V 4 pot 944 s2 engine available. item number 120370319390.
As there's lot's of argument about torquey high capacity sixes vs light weight revvy 4 pots,
Would this be the ideal NA swap of a short and light (?) 4 cyl engine and the chassis balance that goes with it, with the capacity of big six? It's a darn site lot cheaper than a s14 too.
nb) 210bhp, 210 ft/lbs for that engine

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?

Arn't they a bit underpowered for all of that effort?
You'd get better weight distribution, but a turbocharged 4 pot of some description would be the way forwards if an s14 was out of the question.

Hence the ideal NA swap, not that powerfull but it's a wide torque band

Oh right, I have seen your edit now. 210bhp isn't too shabby I guess. I thought they were around 190bhp for some reason. Depends what you want the car for I guess, just for all the effort that is needed I would kind of want 250bhp+ imo. Perhaps I am just lazy?

Good question hence the discussion!!
Anythings possible in the end, bolting a BMW gearbox to it with a custom prop would be my guess of the easiest route? Would there even be space for the transaxle? custom driveshafts sound more expensive than a custom prop too.

My honest opinion would be NOT to use this engine in the first place. When my M3 was falling apart I was thinking of getting rid of it and buy a 944/968 so I looked a little bit into that (wanted to fit an LS1 engine) and was surprised to read that the engine is a bit fragile and very costly to rebuild. Especially the 3.0
Also tuning parts are not that easy to get hold off and £££'s

All interesting stuff. If only porsche had attached a gearbox it would make the transplant an interesting car! supercharged 16v bmw engine it is then! Cheers
