Dudes,

I'm really sorry about this, but the problem is on my Girl's E34 518i  I just could not find any info on the net at all for this problem...

It sometimes is OK, but other times the light comes on and goes off as it pleases. This is anywhere from 1/4 full to 1/8 full. Is the guage kaput ? I've certainly never seen this on an E30.

Any help greatly appreciated Lads..

Cheers

as for the light, mine also come on a bit to early i feel also,.

if i put 10 liters for examp. it will read almost half a tank when i start up again! :?

i know the guages arent the most reliable so i let it slide

the signal is via an analog sensor, basicaly when the level is too low it sends the signal.. if the sensor is set to high then..

Cool, so does that mean that the light is giving a false warning of fuel level. I.E, do I just work off the guage level for accuracy ?

Mine did the same today, the low fuel warning light came on when the gauge was at the 1/4 mark. I had some work done on the car this week and was wondering if he did anything to the SI board or something that might have affected this, because the problem wasn't there before today.

best thing to do fella, is have a gallon tank filled in the boot , and then run it till it dries( i know this is wrong, and i wouldnt do it either, but in principle its the easiest way to find out :? ) then top in the gallon and get yourelf to the local petrol station.. then from the amount u put in , try and calculate the amount of miles u get off of a score for example, and then just set the trip clock and go

if you know the car well enuff, u probably wont even use the trip clock, just the mileometer
