Try the genuine parts section mate, and for an idea of value, I colour-coded the mirror on a mates renault the other week and for a can of paint from the local stealer (same size as BMW sell) it was £17.03 8O

Glad I was not paying for it.

I spryed a teck 2 rear bumper in zinnobar red yesterday with hycote. Cans were £4 each took 3 cans for 3 good coats of colour. Flatted in between each then flatted and g3 cutting polished. Propper chuffed with the job and match is spot on. used hycote loads of times when painting wheels etc and always been mint

I agree, some halfords staff are crap at mixing, i on the other hand used to do it properly when i worked there (for my sins! ).

However, the problem is that often people are painting a car that has been out in the sun all its life, so no matter how close to the recipe the mix is, chances are its going to look different!

Paint fades and wears if its not looked after!

once they got it right, twice it was wrong and the bmw cans match perfectly so it was definately the halfords guys fault.

use the dealer! halfords stuff dont match, also the plonker who mixes it may well shower you in paint! he did to me when the can exploded while he was presurising it. what a knob!!!!

I got some brilliant red from Auto-Paint.co.uk Good cans with spare nozzles and colour match seems spot on. Also the cans are about twice the size for half the price of main dealer paint. Quick delivery but buy more than one can to make the postage and VAT worthwhile.

Has anybody else tried these guys before?

I went to halfords to get some but they couldn't even match the colour for me. They said it was 'too old'!

I hate halfords, but it's so convenient! Just bought some sterling silver to have a go on a spare tailgate - behind the numberplate plinth, just to see what it's like really!

as said. dealer cans are too small to paint anything significant, more use for a rusty arch or perhaps a dent or something like that. 150ml of paint isnt going to go far.

cant say the cirrusblau i got was a perfect match either. maybe the non metallics are better.

I find it really irritating that you can't buy just the colour coat from BMW. On the upside the cans are good and the paint match is really good, it certainly impressed my father who has worked in the car paint industry most of his career.

I have used halfords paint, with my colour (glacier blue), a fair bit. What I've tended to notice is two things; the nozzle is really bad and hard to spray a good cover and that the match really depends what you're spraying on. I have found that over primer or keyed plastic the match has been reasonable but on keyed paint the new paint goes very silver.
