automatic gearbox conversion

hi guys i was wondering if anybody carried out a manual conversion on a 325 i have purchased the car about a week ago and last night i kept losing power like it was slipping and this morning it just would not go into drive took it to a mechanic and they said a new gearbox is needed so wanted to go for a manual one. how would i go on about this and where are the best places to go for the parts that are needed, any help much appriciated, MUS
