ive got a 320i (129bhp) and i managed to get 125 along the m8 in it !!
I reckon it would have went faster but slowed down cause i could smell burning rubber??? maybe tyres are cheap or mis-aligned??

Sounds about right for an auto. A manual gearbox will definately give you more performance.wayneE30 wrote:i know i so badly want to get rid of it i miss a real gear box![]()

I've still got a M40 1.6 for sale Ԛ£150 and it's yours.
Gearbox and all the bits to make it go apart from a radiator.
It's even got a nice motronic system that goes when you press the accelerator.
It got me from central london to Torquay in just over three and a half hours so i'm pretty sure it goes faster than 90mph

lets look at the situation here,
the speed limit in this country-70mph, so why, oh why do you need to get a car that goes at 90mph???????
90mph may get you there quicker, but your pocket will be empty (fines and petrol)
tbh mate its a 1.6 carbed auto car. its never gonna be a total rocket ship (unless si gets his hands on it
) I'd enjoy it for what it is, and if you want a fast car, start off with one (like a 325i or an 320iS or M3)

i agree with sir 320itouring.
if your worryed about performance then you have the worst e30. bar none. 90 sounds about right.

well i have to say my insurance wont let me have a 325i/320is/m3 as my insurance for this car is over 500 on 3rd party only and im 24 driving for 3 years no convitions so unfortunatly for me i have to have the 316 as thats realy the only e30 i can afford to insure
but at least it's an e30

as far as modding my m20 think it'll be BBTB and zone chip and thats enough.
just cruise in the 316i and realise that its a good car for what it is

Its the same size engine as yours. Sorry i read it that you have 3 years ncb not 3 years experience.
If you have been insured on other people insurance i.e parents tell the insurance company and they should reduce it.

Back on topic a bit, ive got a 316i, lovely car, had it for a couple of months, and has been, touch wood* trouble free in that time, but ive noticed it is very underpowered
I'd go to the extend and say that its a very slow car... i.e. my mates 1.4 golf is quicker
Apart from the performance, i am very chuffed with it though! great looking car, well equipped and comfortble, but i'm pretty dissapointed when i put the foot down

If it's any consolation 90mph is about as fast as I have gone in my 323i too. There aren't any tracks near me with long enough straights to go any quicker and I don't feel safe over about 70mph on public roads.

hehe.....dont worry bout it....
The 316 will never be a fast car....It does take me ages to get to 105 though...a nice big stretch of expressway. Not sure what the revs are at that speed tho....prob bout 5400 i think mayb 5500 so would hav a bit left if it wasnt a little bit worn
