Just had the renewal through on the track spec 325 saloon with Adrian Flux. Now since it was insured last year it's been stripped and spec'd for track work. We're struggling to get a quote for less than £700

Any ideas on specialist insurers or brokers?
The car is barely used on the road just to drive to tracks and we don't want it insured whilst it's on the track.

2 owners/drivers both relatively low risk 3rd car, 30+ years, few points for motorway speeding each, low risk area. Mrs added to policy to further reduce cost.

It would appear to be just the modifications, no interior, seats, suspension etc which does the price.
Limited mileage is a good call.

Are there any brokers who are especially kind to track cars?

We've had this chat. Between the two of us we have 4 cars, none of which could tow the 325 and a trailer. Mind you I'm convinced the M5 would do a great job ;)

HIC were very good for mine too, with track cover included for ATDO events.

Have you tried Aplan? I have my skyline insured with them with a long list of mods and they where cheaper than Adrian Flux with a car skyline!!!

Performance Direct are a broker who got me a limited milage policy on my MR2 for £275 fully comp, im 25 and my NCB is used on my other car.

Think it funny that you add uprated brakes suspension and roll cages ultimatley making the car safer and you get charged more for it

because in the eyes of the insurer you will drive the car faster because of the better capabilities of the brakes etc and are thus more likely to have a moment

a broker told me that the insurer classes you as more of a risk because with those added safety improvements your more likely to crash as youll be driving faster and puting your faith in those products saving you.

That's right-known as moral hazard.

Hi its a realy good one to do, I run mine on standard management so its runs just like an S2000 but its 200kg lighter and with E30 handling quirks. The engine is very tall but I managed to fit it with standard sump but most use dry sump, gear box is a dream as you will know, I use a 4.54 final drive (could realy do with a 5.1) the S2000 is 4.1 so slightly higher. In all it makes a cheap powerfull engine trasplant it cost about 3.5K for all the bits to put it in then my time, the only reason I use the honda stuff is its so reliable oil change every 3k and off you go.

I'm with adrian flux and have been for 4 years now. They have me insured with QBE fully comp inc track cover + all mod's and that includs m30 swap for under £250..

I would talk to them again unless you have a very bad record.

Best quote so far is Adrian flux - £470 p.a. to insure myself with breakdown cover included. We've tried the other insurers posted here. I can't imagine we will do more than 3000 miles p.a.

Not great For example I pay £500 for cover on my M5.

If anyone has any other suggestions please post-the car is currently sat in the garage uninsured. We need cover on Saturday as we are at Oulton Park. Longer term we are looking for a trailer.

I just insured my track car with Competition Car Insurance, slightly cheaper than HIC for me (and the wife) and they're cool with all mods incl cage.

We've bought a trailer and it'll be going off the road shortly. Cheaper than taxing, insuring and MOT'ing it every year only to drive it to and from race tracks. Horrible to drive on the roads now anyway.

I can't find specs for an M5, but a 540i can tow 2000Kg (braked).
Your M5 would have no trouble towing an e30 on a trailer - especially a stripped-out track car.

Plus, towbars on fast cars are cool

I doubt a 540i can legally tow 2000 kgs. Can't pull more than its own weight.

M5 + towbar is the way forward. 1800kg max
