Need engine conversion from m20b20 because as you all agree it`s a no good engine fuel consumption wise and lacks punch so am considering m50`s.I aren`t bhp crazy but need a good balance of mpg and horses.Any one knows mpg of both these engines thats m50b20 and m50b25.I love the way bmw six pot engine sounds.Any advice wud be grately appreciated

The m50 520i and 525i have a big difference between them when the engines are still in them (not sure what they are like on fuel in e30s but the m50b20 in an e30 is disappointingly slow, you may as well get an m42!) but the 520i is slow and crap on fuel but the 525i is faster and better on fuel when they are in the e34.

Its the same as deciding between an M20B20 and an M20B25, dont even consider it, its not worth the effort

M20b20 = 129 donkeys M50b20 = 150 horses M50b25 = 192 stallions so surely
they shud be a difference considering i love the way bmw 6 pot sounds, i would like
a fair horsepower and engine size so considering the cc involved the 25 looks like a
decent trade off.Mpg wise is it worth it swapping these engines over and have
heard horror nakasil stories bout m52 engines

nikisil issues arent as bad as they have been made out to sound imo. It was only the early m52 engines which had this problem. there was a recent thread actually discussing m50 vs m52

Drive it like an old codger and you can get good mpg, the temptation to boot it usually puts an end to that though :)

Right on. The weight is considerably more than an M50 and the power potential just isn't there, assuming normal aspiration.

It's pretty easy to get 230whp from an M50 using a 85.8/89.66 crank, while weighing close to 100 pounds less than an M30.
