I was just wondering because sometime in the not-too-distant-future good ones are going to be hard to find.

i have tried rubbing down some last summer and didnt come off as well as i thought it would, you wont be able to make them brand new, but is better than alot of bubbly paintwork on them.

chip / sand off the corosion. you'll need a pretty brutal sandpaper to get through it, something like 80 grit aluminium oxide paper.

mask up the mirror casing well too, as you can't seperate them from the bases, and you don't want to sand gauges into the plastic.

fill, smooth, prime and paint. shouldnt be too hard to get a decent finish.
cheers,

harry

That's pretty much what I was thinking.....

Rub down and scrape loose material
Etch prime
Fill as necessary
Prime then satin black bases.
