I was reading in the zone wiki that the 320is was only sold in Spain and Portugal due to heavy taxes for engines over 2 litres. If this is the case then surely all 320is's manufactured would have been LHD?

I saw a RHD 320is around the corner from me yesterday and I'm just wondering if they did manufacture a RHD version or if this car is a fraud!?

Could anyone fill me in?

Cheers guys.

Off topic, but my mate had an immaculate 320is he bought from Munich Legends picked up and put on to the back of a lorry in the middle of the night never to be seen again.

There was a new porsche next to it.

He then downsized to a 325i sport and immediately had the m-tech 2 bodykit nicked off it.

Think he was being picked on..

Hmm, I'll see if I can get talking to him and have a look at that engine.

It looks the part on the inside. M tech wheel, Recaro seats etc and the exterior looks the part too.

Is there any defining feature of a 320is or is it just the engine that gives it away?

Would it really be worth converting one to a RHD when you could just buy a 325i sport?

Anyway, Ill see if I can suss him out...... :)

When a LHD is converted to RHD...Sometimes they forget to convert the wipers too....

the is is 4 stud got 325 sport running gear just the engine (detuned to 2.0) box and diff. it has a 3.46 diff instead of the 3.2 in the m3. you cant really tell only by bade lhd and the clocks will have a oil temp instead of a economy guage. all the rest is under the bonnet!! there were no rhd from factory

Also have a look at the gearknob. Dogleg box.

Another telltale of a conversion, the passenger seat will have a tilt handle on the inside of the seat.

I had a look inside. Can't remember exactly but I'm nearly sure it didn't have a dogleg box.

Are you sure it was an "is" ? I've seen a 320i with an "s" badge around dublin. The boys like their stick on badges over here !

It can't be that complicated to convert one. The manifold would be the only real issue I guess?

As i'm from Portugal and have a s14 320is, here's some info:

They are 4 stud,
They have dogleg gearbox, the same as the M3
They have the same instrument cluster as the M3, but without red needles

More info here:

Cheers.

It was actually Italy and Portugal that they were available in, not Spain.
