Hi
I seem to be getting alot of condensation in my boot. When I open it up, the boot lid is dripping wet, the carpet is wet and everything I put in gets wet. I got in my boot last night and got a mate to spray it with a hose all over and I checked for leaks with a torch through the lights, boot seal, aireal etc and there was not a drop coming in any where. I have a LPG tank in the wheel well which is sealed so gas cannot get into the car and the LPG filler is behined the number plate which is also sealed but does not have a twist on lid to lock on to the bayonet fitting on the filler. Could either of these cause condensation getting in the boot or is there some other way?
Cheers
Condesation in the boot!!

check the inner arches for holes/rot by pulling the boot carpet back, water will only get in whilst driving in the wet (spray off the wheels)

rear light gaskets can fail, so can the boot gasket
i would also check underneith the boot seal for rust and holes which could be letting water in.
it could possible be letting water in around the ariel too
first of all i would try tightening the boot adjuster so it creates a better seal when its closed

Mine does it too,
I put it down to the cold weather, as it is only a single skin of steel on the boot lid getting cold on the outside and staying warm in the boot, thus condensing and dripping.
my bootlid stays dry inside in the summer, but drips like hell in the colder days.
try a plastic bootliner, still available new i think.

Is there water in the wells (where the jack goes) Both sides)jon_d_h wrote:Ill have a look under the arches and boot but im pritty sure they are solid. If the filler doesnt have a lid on, even though no water is getting in, could this cause condensation in the boot.
cheers

I'm having a similar problem. Loads of condensation on the inside of the boot lid. I'm replacing all the carpet in the boot at the weekend, so I'm going to have a good prod and poke then.
I have checked the passenger side well and it seems pretty solid. Will check under the battery tray at the weekend.
Hopefully dry carpet will help to solve the problem along with new tailight seals.

It doesn't look like it does in my sig pic anymore

I'll check it at the weekend Alex, I'll put fresh butyl sealer in the boot seal and squeeze it back together before I refit it. Thanks....Alex wrote:check for rust underneith the boot seal too, my IS is the e30 ive had with no rust their and the only one which has a dry bootblackcountrybimmerman wrote:I'm having a similar problem. correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you supposed to have a vent tube for an LPG system? Mine has a little pipe going through the bottom of the spare wheel well and venting outside... it might be because my tank is older though....
asides from that you're probably looking at seals somewhere...
