I've got a track prepared M3 that has been in a couple of accidents and poorly repaired at some point in it's life. Now that it is finally with someone that knows what they are doing they have found biblical rust in the inner sills and both inner wings are going to need replaced before the car can even be jigged.
This is going to cost a fair fortune, so I was wondering has anyone put the s14 lump into an is? M3 shells are pretty scarce at the moment and i was wondering about putting all of the running gear in (including my coil-overs etc.) to the standard shell, if nothing else, at least it would be a sleeper. I wouldn't mind about converting it to lhd either.
Thanks for any advice.

Demlotcrew has a 318iS with a S14 in it!
The mechanics from the M3 will drop in the 318iS no problem.

The only problem is the Exhaust Manifold! Unfortunately, that and the steering couplin like to accomodate the same area!
E30 M3 Unichip Alpha N style conversions, this is the ultimate for extracting the best out of your S14 M power car.

Could I get around this LHD'ing it using my M3 bits and bobs?ShepsEvo3 wrote:The only problem is the Exhaust Manifold! Unfortunately, that and the steering couplin like to accomodate the same area!
I've seen that car and it looks like a very well executed conversion. There is obviously a way around the steering column with the exhaust.E30Mark wrote:Demlotcrew has a 318iS with a S14 in it!

Hi
I had a rhd Birds manifold for a conversion I never done basicly, it appeared to to a standard manifold with the 2 down pipes seperated to pass the steerign column through.
Jason
PS though about selling the whole car.

Alright, I might have to get some photos of that to see how it looks, although I'll really have to get a 318 first to get the ball rolling.e21Jason wrote:Hi

I'm not really wanting to sell the car to be honest, I'd rather just store the shell until I'm able to afford to do it correctly and then basically have a perfect rust free non-sunroof shell to start with at a later date.
I would get a nice custom manifold made up by a respected exhaust fabricator, which allows you to use a faster E36/E46/Z3 rack - the Birds RHD manifold probably wont have sufficient clearance to use anything other than the crappy standard E30 rack which is a downgrade from the E30 M3 item.
That is now sold.Bob_S wrote:no it's not Uwe, he did/does have a 320is shellUweM3 wrote:I might be wrong but is Demlots car not a 320iS??? (that comes with an S14 from BMW)
His black car is indeed a 318iS with a 2.3 S14 and uses a Bird's RHD S14 mainfold.
His car is awesome, i want it!

I have finally found a thread with some photos of this car, very nice, plenty of inspiration. Now I've got to get a 318is!

Yeah I saw this, I'm in a shipyard in Norway at the moment and will have to wait until I get back from work to have a look at any potential cars. The shopping list is growing by the day!toby wrote:Oakey had a 318is shell for sale. http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... sc&start=0
