Hi
I have E30 318i `87 (M40) with LPG (open loop vith a valve) and when I from idle quickly push the gas pedall car is choking with air and go off, same problem is on petrol too.
previous owner of car is attach one plate at the enty in front of air filter housing and with that car is workig but it`s twice sluggish.
I check all sensors and airflow meter and looks all fine(by the haynes)
can You please tell what you think thas is problem?
choke problem

Hi
Where are you in the world ?
Try a new temerature sensor. Blue one below inlet manifold.

i think i have the same problem
320i idles a bit lumpy but if i press the accelerator it dies first then picks up on revs
if i continuously press the accelerator right i can get the car to very nearly stall is this the same problem?

Thanks for reply`s and sorry for my bad english!
I am from Serbia, but my 318i is from Italy.
Many of them told me that exist crack in air intake after AF meter, but today i examine all hoses nad nothing!
Tomorow will test temeprature sensor as you said (do you know what resistance need to be?)
If you get the car to very nearly stall when quickly press the gas pedal then you check first Throttle position sensor(have two contacts-idle and full open)
I check that and idle valve and all working fine, but when from idle quick press the gas pedal car is choke and sometime goes off, over 2000rpm working without choking fine! this is workin that and before i put lpg in car!!!

If the problem occurs on petrol and an open loop LPG system, then it's nothing to do with the blue temp sensor. The only effect a duff blue temp sensor would have when running on LPG is to raise the idle speed slightly.
You have two completely independant fuel supply systems, so the only fuel supply fault that can affect both petrol and LPG is one where both fuels are supplied together, which will kill the engine dead because of the over rich mixture.
Assuming there are no serious internal mechanical faults with the engine, such as burnt valves or suchlike, then your fault can only be an air leak or ignition problems
