Bulbs are fine, as is the fuse, what else should I check?

switch on the gearbox!

Switch is high up on the right hand side of the gearbox. Tips of the fingers job to change it, and fiddly to get the connectors back on.
Old one just unscrews and new one screws in. No adjustments to worry about.
Got through three "good" second hand ones in sixth months, before I stopped being so tight, andbought a new one!
