MPG
Moderator: martauto
I used to have a 320ISE 2dr which altough was a vgood looking motor it used to drink more than George Best at a party, now 5 years later have decided to treat myself to a cheap 325ise 4dr to cane about it returns around town 22mpg on average whereas my old 320 used to do 18-20 on average cos I had to cane it to move it, Whats the average consumption of our fellow ZONE'RS I may ask you, regards Carl.

On average very low 20's unfortunately!
Less than that if driven hard.

I manage to get about Ԛ£100 miles from Ԛ£20 of supermarket unleaded
Went to Inverness and back last weekend, from Leeds. First tank of fuel 9.98 gallons and 303 miles = 30.39 MPG. Second tank 11.38 gallons and 340 miles = 29.87 MPG. Third tank is still being used but I expect it to be better than the first as I have already covered 350+ miles on it. Second tank is lower MPGs as I was buring around Inverness with 4/5 people in the car. This was in my brothers 325 Cab, F reg with 151,000 miles on it. On the way up I was driving quite fast too 80-90 (fast as far as good economy is concerned) and had the down up for at least the first 100 miles. I recon my saloon would be even better.

It's not so much about what speed you're doing - its about maintaining that speed with out speeding up/slowing down, and not pushing the throttle down more than 1 or 2mm unless you have toWidge wrote:Went to Inverness and back last weekend, from Leeds. well best i've ever had is 38mpg outta my 320i,
last Ԛ£20 yeilded 184 miles at 85.9p/litre (23.28l, 5.13 gal= 35.87 mpg)
and that was 124 miles of town driving and 60 miles m/way/A roads
generally i reckon on about 160-185 outta Ԛ£20, depending on how much of a rush i'm in.
on a full tank, 375-450 is about the norm from full to light on (62l=13 gal=28.84-34.62mpg)
however, about once a month it gets the 30 miles to Ԛ£10 treatment to keep it sweet
(11.56mpg

I usually get 300 miles to 40-45 quid(I'm in Germany for work, no pound signs!) at about 86p/litre, 26mpg. That's mainly A/B roads and small towns. Can easily get over 30 on a run, if I don't get bored.

I'll just have to use it for pleasure ie.weekends etc cos all it does is 45miles to a tenner. Just have to put up with 306dt for everyday which does 110miles to a tenner but I know which I like best barring the economy.

Can't you get big gains chipping the DT? My head was telling me to get one when I bought the touring, but it was cheaper and I'd wanted one for years so made an executive decision to suffer the fuel bills and drive slowly most of the time.carl325i wrote:I'll just have to use it for pleasure ie.weekends etc cos all it does is 45miles to a tenner. That's just about what my 325 touring costs to run - pedal to the metal at every oppurtunity, and all B road or minor A road stuff (No motorways around here. Only dual carriagrway is ten miles away and is 40MPH or 50MPH limit along its whole length).carl325i wrote:306dt for everyday which does 110miles to a tenner.

Only ever kept check on my MPG once, when i first got it, as i hate doing it! why buy a car then worry about mpg after youve bought it? E30's are to be enjoyed!
The one time i did do it however, i averaged about 35-40mpg thats in various situations, round town, b roads, motorway etc etc..
Oh, and its a 316i

Well in the 318iS with the 4 pot engine of correctness I average 34.9 mpg normally. Thats around 350 miles to a tank. Although petrol is now 91.9p a litre! That's just 95 RON!!!!
Used to get 22mpg when toodling through Reading every day on my commute!
And this is not with a light right foot might I add! I love the fact that I can sit at 85 (kph officer, honest) on the main road and return 35 mpg on a steady throttle!

I get 25mpg in outer London with my 325i touring (5-speed). Longer trips out of town work out at 30mpg. If you keep an eye on the swingometer you soon learn how to use less fuel. As someone else has already said it doesen't mean you go slow, just be gentle with the throttle.
Before having the exhaust on my 325 cab changed from a bodged 1 pipe back section to a full twin pipe complete BMW I was getting 20-22 MPG.
Now the exhaust has been changed I get 25 MPG (that is mainly round town with a little bit of motorway driving.
Haven't had the chance to take it on a full motorway drive yet although I should next weekend.
