Painting the engine

Wanting to paint my engine.

What am i going to need to do it? Product names and locations where to buy would be good

i would start of by taking your engine out if you want to do it properly

High Temp Paint, Motor factors or halfords, plenty of degreaser (Gunk) and a wirebush.

oh and lots of time and patience

Gunk may leave some residue causing a reaction. Use it first off then clean again really intensly with thinners. Tat way it will be completely degreased and ready for the paint.

With the engine in, I'd still remove EVERY ancillary (alternator, power steering pump etc.) then remove the exhaust manifold, inlet manifold and the cam cover. If you don't it'll be a nighmare and probably look sh1t.

Its going to be in an engine stand so no need to worry about that.

frost sell several types of engine paint, i plan to get mine from there when i can decide on waht colour to do it

hi Matt

hope you are well? hows the V8 conversion going ?

the last engine I painted I used a high temp silver paint in a rattle can made working on the engine a lot easier, could see what was happening down the sides of the block a lot better !

just make sure you de-grease and neutralize with a solvent properly as B7 quoted
before spraying as many coats on as you can get !

I wouldn't go too many coats. It'll chip when you bolt the ancillaries and bracketry on. Just a nice even coat will do.

I know everyone has said thinners etc, have you thought of trying one of those small steam cleaner jobbies?

Not sure if it'd work, but it may be worth trying.

alright

the cars in my mates garage after having the 2.5 taken out, i let him buy that as i kind of owed him anyway, on the plus side he took it out,

my workshop is currently full of the 530 which i'm getting the manual gearbox off,

i'll start a thread in the photo section
