thats bad news, even tho some of his designs were a bit out there overall he has done a good job of steering BMW in the right direction but adrian van hooydonk is a great designer and i think he will direct BMW design into a more familliar direction while still putting the cars at the top of the desirebility tree. the next few years will be exiting times with hooydonk at the helm!

This is the one car I sort of like. The E92 looks fine.
I thought it was the one car that Chris Bangle got right.
Apparently he didn't though.

Only my opinion, but in my eyes Audi have really got the edge over BMW lately, lookswise at least.

Thank god for that. The previous seven series was monstrous looking. Merc must have been delighted when they saw their main competitor for the S class.

Lets hope BMW can go back to their elegant best :)

at the moment audi are doing the business but throughout their model range there are too many similarities and at times the only difference is the size. BMW at least tried to be different, not always to everyones taste but you cant please all of the people all of the time! but it is a step in the right direction.

Cya Chris. Good luck.

Don't let the 'obteusly angled, oh man what is that shut line doing there, look mommy an edge, accident between boat and fast back, debauchery in style' door clout your behind on the way out.

I'd still buy you a pint.

What a load of rubbish. The E65 was a fantastic and radical piece of design. It's also the biggest selling 7 series ever so maybe Mercedes weren't quite as "delighted" as you think.

See also, fleet sales. Oh, and the single most common verdict I've heard repeated by e65 users being that their perspective is usually from the inside. The e38 was the benchmark seven. The e65 remains the bastard child.

Oh dear. Its spot the brain cell time already.

BMW exists to make a profit and as the E65 was the biggest selling 7 BMW has ever had I'm guessing it pretty much done its job. You prefer the E38? Fine, so do I but at least most newer BMW's look unique rather than the old days when they just made the same car in three different sizes.

After years of record sales and growth I'm sure the BMW shareholders are more than happy with Mr Bangle's alleged butchering of their brand identity. Most people didn't complain when he signed off the E46.

Adrian Van Hooydonk has had influence on all of the current designs so I wouldn't expect much change.

It was just my opinion mate, Its not really fair to call it a load of rubbish. I think a lot of people would agree that it was an ugly car. Your opinion is perfectly valid too of course and if you like the car then thats fine.

It may have been the best selling 7 series ever but the S class still outsold it at least 2 to 1.

And check the sales figures for the 7 versus the S class, there is clearly only one winner.

Love or hate his designs, at least Chris Bangle followed his own path, and BMW had the balls
to stick with him.

his designs were radical, but as the article says the other makers used some of his design cues, and as they say imitation is the biggest form of flattery

You know for someone who I've never had the pleasure of meeting before face to face you write like a trashy zit ridden teen who never saw anything automotive outside a 17 year old well thumbed copy of Razzle.

I'm going to ignore you from now onwards. Cherio :D
