If I remember rightly you have to be able to do the minimum speed limit on the motorway,If you are using an A frame or solid tow bar that allows the towing vehicle to brake for the towed vehicle then I am sure their is no problem

I wouldn't risk it anyway. If you had to brake suddenly, whoever was in the car behind would be right through your back end.

If you are towing the servo on the towed car isn't working, so little or no braking.

I just wouldn't risk doing it without an "A" frame or a towing bar.

Emergency - you can tow a broken down car off of the motorway with a rope, you should not tow a broken car on to a motorway. you are supposed to display a TOW sign, you are also supposed to only tow to the next exit. You are also supposed to call the police from emergency phone to inform them you are broken down and towing.

Generally - you can tow a car with a solid bar, provided the rear car has lights working as the towing car and displays the reg of the car doing the towing. speed limit is 60 and not allowed in the fast lane except when directed by police etc.

But this was the case a while ago, it may be worth checking with AA/RAC or the police themselves.

I think tow ropes are only supposed to be used in an emergency? to tow you out of the way when broken down or out of mud.

if you do tow it on a solid bar/a-frame, it will be classed as a trailer, and if you passed after 1997 think you have to check if your licence covers it because an e30 is a heavy trailer!

Got towed from Kent to NW London in a real crappy looking E30 (bird crap all over it.. mismatched wheels, little of the interior left etc etc). Towed behind a Sprinter on a rigid bar. Ol' bill never seemed to mind as we cruised past them ~60mph on the M25.

Ian

NO! you need someone in there sterring. You dont need no one sterring with A frame though.

Why would you want to? If you need to road tow - avoid the motorway.

If I remember correctly, yes you can tow a car with an a-frame on the motorway as long as there isn't anyone riding in the car. You may use a tow rope (or solid bar for that that matter) but you must come off at the next junction.
