The Lsd saved my ass tonight

as above people... i was minding my own driving back from work this eve... just before you get into spixworth because of the bad weather there was a massive puddle of water on my side of the road!
a car passed me and i didnt see this elusive puddle... until it was too late... i was doing about 55... the car leered to the left.... i steered the other way and i could feel the lsd working as i aqua plained across the puddle.. i kept her together and advanced on my journey home... put the wind up me!... but the 87' see me right!.... LSD FTW>>

Is an LSD really that essential for traction ? I only ask as I have one sitting around which I'm considering fitting to the touring. I don't really go drifting as such, so I didn't think it was that essential to have one ?

Apologies if this has been covered a squillion times already..

having a lsd fitted is the second best thing i have done to my car other than fitting the bilstein + eibach's.. you get better traction and pull away... and having the ability to control a skid better as demonstrated tonight.. and you dont get that kick that an open diff gives you when it bites... fit it!
at the time just after i came out of the puddle the only words i could muster were... thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you !! ( to my guardian angel!!)

Could have done with a slipper on the touring I was driving tonight! Took me over half an hour to cover 50 yards!!
I actually got out of the car to see what was happening. One rear wheel would spin, melt the ice under it, move over a few inches, then the other side would spin, melt the ice, and so on.

did you get into a slide, or did it jsut pull to the left in heavy standing water and then aquaplane?

i wouldn't have thought an LSD would be much use in an aquaplaning situation?

the car hit the water leered towards the left(towards the hedge) my first reaction was to steer away from it... then the car went to the right.. i steered it to the left and straightened it up...the rear end was doing its own thing.

Very useful in situations like Brian was in anyway! I used to live on a hill that I couldn't get up with an open diff... & they're well worth having for traction 'off the line' if nothing else.

maybe if I had a LSD my tourer wouldn't be stuck in the field at the top of the road.

snow forecast for the next few days might be a while until I can get it out

LSD in this weather means instead of spinning up one wheel, both spin like bastards and you poo your shorts as you slide towards parked cars. Slight camber on the road and all my car wants to do is mate the kerb

an lsd would have made very little if any difference in that situation..

Decent set of tyres would have far more effect..

Lsd helps traction off the line and out of corners

I reckon its nothing to do with the Diff, tyres, throttle or sport, its all to do with...

by the way, you will never win making these sort of comments as someone will always know better from their bedroom, if you think the LSD saved your bacon then good for you and lesson learnt the easy way for next time! I learnt mine by going 50mph sideways on the grass past an huge oak tree in a rusty mini, i was at the wheel but might at well have been in the boot,if i had have been a foot to one side that would have spelt the end of mrlee, i reckoned it was the 5x10 inch minilights that saved my bacon that time

I find my autobox in 3rd and gentle throttle got me about no problemo in the snow. As for all this crap about LSD's etc- go see all the old e30's in Sweden/Norway etc. Good driving skills is what counts

In this weather I don't dare take the Alpina out. Been driving mums Ford KA and nearly put that into a garden wall thanks to black ice.

With all the stories of people losing the rear end at speeds of 55mph I am shitting myself to drive round bends incase I get the back snapping from me.

I would love my e30 to be on the road atm but it's not it's stuck at the bottom of the drive

I would use mine more but pointless driving 3 mins to work and back. The Alpina drinks an obsene amount of petrol when cold.
