Shouldn't need sealant if your gasket's new.
alright brian i was wondering when you were gonna help me out
. the gasket is the black rubber thingy on the bottom right?? the gasket in that case is old mate but will hope i can get a new one tomorrow. now the carb is from a manual and as you know mines an auto will i have problems as the auto has the kickdown cable???(if that makes sense)

If it's a thick rubber anti vibration gasket then it should be OK if it's in good condition. If you can't get the kickdown cable connected up with bits from the old carb, then you'll hsave to live without kickdown.
it's been a few years since I played around with a carbed BMW. (My first E30 was a carbed 1.8. Was very happy with it. Then I drove a 325 .... No going back!)
