hey,

I have just bought a G reg 318i cab in dark blue, and I want to put some alloy wheels on it but I'm not really sure what to go for, do you have any advice?

Nice forum by the way, I've read a lot about this being a new one, how long have you been going?

Thanks, ems

welcome to the zone. the e30 zone has been going a long time now(long before i started). this is just a new forum that started yesterday...it's much better than the old one too.

original BBS Multispoke (basket weave) wheels look good on e30's and are what came as standard on top model cars(optional on lower models)

then there are hartge's, alpina's and several others that are also popular,

these are the alpina wheels

these are the standard Xspokes

sorry about the pic being on an angle, took it from my own pic whcih is larger.

Thanks for replying so quick,

I'm afraid I have no pictures as of yet cos i have no digital camera however i will try to take some photos with my phone.

I like the wheels DAN has posted in the member rides section are they hard to get hold of? I'm quite partial to the plain looking ones.

hello and welcome to the site. i'd go with these too. just change the tyre size from 205/55-15 to 205/50-15 and they are sweet.
you should find a set cheap/easily enough. they look like this only usually a bit cleaner
Image
just have a look round the site and see what you like. someone will tell you what they are if you ask. enjoy :D

Hi + welcome, with ref to wheels for your motor the three types i would concider are either;

1, Alpina replicas in 17"
2, BBS RS's in 16"
3, Motorsport replicas in 17"

Everybodies taste is different though, just have to check out Adam's(is he still Moofles???????)car.
The best way to make your mind up is to wait until people have got their heads around this newly layed out site, then sig pics will start appearing - scan over as many different wheels as you can to see how they look on the E30 + then decide.Wheels do make the car.

Hope you enjoy the Zone.

Neil.

Hello and welcome!

The wheels i have are standard x-spokes which has been mentioned above. I'm sure you'd be able to pick a set of 5 up from here, then maybe invest some cash in getting them refurbed like Splondike has.

Welcome to the Zone Ems (Emma?) (Emily?) (Ems???)

I have had 15" BBS cross-spokes on my car and the 17" Alpina Replicas that have both been mentioned.
If you are looking to keep the ride quality, and dont want to be shaken to death by the bumps in our roads, go for something 15" or 16".

17" alloys seem to upset the handling on our cars and makes the car follow all the bumps and ruts in the road slightly (This is known as Tramlining)

Having originally had 15" alloys and changed to 17s, i am now changing back to 15s again, as i prefer the ride quality to be slightly better than the 17s offer.

The important thing to do i think, when choosing your alloys, is to buy a set that YOU like. If nobody else likes them, then tuff! Its not their car! If you dont like any of the alloys we have mentioned, get yourself a BMW magazine from your local newsagents, make a cuppa, and sit down and flick through for a set that you like. Dare i say this, but it may even be worth visiting a Max Power magazine for inspiration on the subject.

Nice to see another female member here too! (I think thats 4 new female members in 2 days)... that must be a record for the Zone!!!! LOL.

Please dont let our insanity put you off..... every E30 Owner goes mad at some point, so just relax and take it in your stride when it happens to you!

Such a difficult choice. The BBS I used to have were nice and progressive in slide with no vibration. But kinda didn't look very special. With the 'Pina reps (ex-Simon) there's waaay better grip in the dry, but it comes at the expense of boominess and tramlining. But they do look soooooooooo sweet. :?

Pina reps??? MORE GRIP??? U sure about that???? I find they have less grip if you are on an un-even surface. Something like a race track, yea, sure i agree with you, but not on the UK roads, no way! lol.

Dont go out and buy any alloy wheels untill u have lowered your car!

Then get yourself a nice set of BBS split rims with polished dish!

Should be a few sets of these on e-bay!

This is all my own opinion of course you should go for what you like best! That's what makes it your car, not your name on the log book!
