Come on, what are the plans for your cars this year? Did you set out to do what you did last year?

Last years plans for me involved either dropping an M42 into my touring or buying an iS. I did both, but now it seems my car is in need of a serious going over.

First up on the agenda is to sort the bloody scruffy bodywork out. It's not going to be showroom perfect but it should tidy the aesthetics of the car up a tad.

I'm in the process of securing some 15" BBS to refurb and put on the car, which should be an improvement over the 14s I'm running now.

Suspension and brakes are next on the hitlist. I had advisories on my rear disks, and seeing as the old iS brakes are only 2 years old, they'll be upgraded with new pads, lines and fluid and slotted into place. The touring is 20 years old this year, so the standard suspension has lost its way somewhat. That'll get changed over for something shiny and new.

But what of the mighty M42 that resides within? Well, as long as that sees me to the end of the year I'll be a happy bunny. All forced induction and expensive stroker delusions are gone, as I've seen the light and will be going M50 very soon.

This year I'm going to refurb the front underbody after doing the rear end last year. I also need to give my original 15" BBS wheels a freshen up and ditch the council 17's.

Last year's work .........

I need to finish my 2.7 build soon and get the thing running. Then the plan is to use it this summer and next winter refurb the rear end, basically the opposite to you Taylor. My fronts all done, just need to do the rear now

My first job is to get my bodywork sorted, rear arches and a couple of other areas, it's going to cost more than I paid for it but it's got to be done. My last E30 died from terminal rot and I'm not going to let it happen to this one.

Then I'm going to get it fully up to 325 spec, the engine and front suspension was done last year, still got to do the rear disc conversion and battery in boot. Also fit an lsd of funds allow.

Hopefully later this year I'm going to move to a place with a garage, if I do I'll be doing something with the engine, maybe a 2.7 conversion...

Plans For this year:

Say goodbye to a family friend (think my iS will be going later in the year to make way for something more practical  )

reason being, Im an outdoor instructor and the saloon isn't great for carrying all of my kit about in (My Kayaks don't fit inside the saloon, and if a few of us are going walking/climbing we are limited on what kit we can fit in)

On the plus side, I am looking into either a 325i touring to replace it, or doing an M42 transplant into another touring shell- essentially for the fuel economy and a few people have done it and seem to think its a good swap!! As much as I want the right number of cylinders in a BMW, my pockets aren't deep enough bearing in mind my expected milage

I fancy a tidy black/metallic black/dolphin grey touring shell, iS lip+ SE skirts, Smoked headlights, Leather sports interior, either 15" BBS or a set of MIMS, Maybe a subtle drop+stiffen up.

I also miss my landrover, so the alternative would be a Tdi Defender 110............(awaits verbal beating)

Anyhow, immediate plans are to get this f**king dissertation done.

I've long adopted the approach that it'll be done when it's done :)

Although saying that, I'm off outside now to have a fiddle, now where it that list......

Mines going to be sort out the surface rust, get the 15" bbs's refurbed (that was on last years list too ) and possibly start and m50 e30 or buy one! I feel i should celebrate my 21st with cheaper insurance on a car that will give my mates elise a good run for its money... an m50 wont beat it but it'll still be fun!

2009 plans are to do as little as possible from now on to the BMw and enjoy smoking about in it, solong as its reliable and needs nothing more that standard preventative maintainance, I'll be happy. The real automotive plans are to get the Chim back out for a full season and do the 2CV 24hrs.

Boring and not really e30 based but there we go.
Regards
Iain
