MOT Tests

Quick question, If I take the car for a MOT before the current MOT runs out and the car fails then does that make my current MOT void?

I'd like to get the car tested so I know what needs replacing before the MOT in March.

if you have your car mot'ed now and it fails it will show up that it has failed and deem you as having no mot to the police. you can take your car for mot up to a month before and keep the original date

just take the car to them and ask them to look over it and see what need to be changed i think is was £20 or 1hrs labour.

You are knowingly driving a car which is unfit... or something like that. Two weeks is quite a long time in the eyes of the law as well. I'd park it until you've got another test booked if I were you. (You're OK if you're going to a garage with a pre-booked test).

there's just too much ANPR around nowadays to take the risk (IMO).

Edit: Remember, no MOT - no insurance!

Just because it fails a new MOT test it DOES NOT invalidate the old MOT. If your driving it with bald tyres and other obvious visual defects then you'll get done whether it has an MOT or not.

well i had mine done today and so long as you have things pre-booked ie my window screen, you can drive to the place of work being carried out up to 7 days after the your mot fail date, Which DOES make your current mot invalid which i why i mot'ed mine today as it runs out tomorrow to get the maximum usage from the car as i know it was going to fail!

obisly if your driving around say to go to the shops or a mates house then your car would be siesed i believe.

still in any case its not worth the risk, use ya legs, bus bike what ever as there have it off you and your get points and a fine up to £2500, so a fail sheet maybe say costing £150 to fix now has points,fine,no car!

As Mark has stated, you'll only get done if your old MOT has expired or the car is dangerous, then you'd be stupid to drive it anyway..

The only place a car can be driven without an MOT is to a pre booked MOT. It can then also be driven away again back to where it came from. There is no exempton to take it to a place of repair without an MOT and no time limit either. If the MOT has expired then it cannot be driven on the road anywhere except as above - that is a pre booked MOT.

Once an MOT is issued it is valid until the day it expires. It does not mean the car is legal to drive on the road as the MOT is only concerned with the vehicle condition at the time of test. Therefore you can have a valid MOT and still have an illegal vehicle if something is wrong and breaking one of the laws in Con and Use or Road light regs or the Road Traffic Act etc.

In fact you can have the Test done up to a calendar month before the expiry date and have the new MOT forward-dated to the expiry date of the existing certificate. So if you have your car Tested during that month and it fails, this gives you time to have the repairs carried out and the car re-tested before the expiry of the original certificate and you are not disadvantaged as a result. - MOTT.

if your car is booked in for repair it can be drive to that one place if it is requiered for the mot

no mot doesnt automatically invalidate your insurance. check your own policy details to be sure.
