No not mine!!!
and not entirely E30 related, but it could be....

Coming up in south london on sunday night, lots of traffice all qued up, then spot a car in a laybye with the begginigs of a car fire,
Nobody was stopping, just giving it a wide birth! The four Guys that were in it looked like they were sh!tting themselves.

Me being me stopped 8O 8O 8O as I new i had loads of water...

Another guy behind me also stopped and gave us a brand new Iron board cover (fire retardent!). anyway put the fire out and disconneted the battrey etc etc.

It was a Mk3 golf (not an old car...) and the headlight had cought alight. The headlight is right next to the alternator, which i though was a bit close, sparks and stuff especially on a hot day!

anyway bumper melted along with light and various electrical wires and stuff frazzeled!, but nobody was hurt! so all o.k. Just lucky it didn't get near any fuel!

Later while we were stuck in traffic it dawned on me that the car had dogdy "blue" rear lights. I also suspected that the headlamps were not standard, though i didn't really look.

So lessons learnt:

1: CARRY A FIRE EXTINGUISHER and or BLANKET
2: Be very Careful in buying lights/electrical items that are not standard. Not only will they look chav, but there likely to burn your car!
3: Most road users wont help you....especailly in surrey/london area!

What amused me was the fact that when the fire was put out, everbody was looking at my car to work out who had broken down! Its not always the older car you know!

Someone who knows how to do this kind of thing ought to take a close up photo of all the fuses in an E30 fusebox, and post it as a sticky, so that all of you out there can print it off and compare the colours with your own fuseboxes.
E30 fuses are in a pretty random order as regards ratings, and all fuse sizes are physically interchangeable, so if anyone fits a wrong size fuse anywhere it's not at all obvious.
E30 wiring is well designed and wouldn't normally give rise to fires AS LONG AS THE FUSES ARE OF THE CORRECT SIZE.
I quite often find wrong size fuses fitted in E30s that come my way, so a picture like this would be an easy way for you all to check.

Brian are u:

A) an auto electrician
B) Bmw technician of some kind
C) self taught guru
D) all of the above A,B,C
E) unemployed
F) that ex England rugby player

I wonder this because since u have joined the site all u do is help technical problems and never really post anything personal?!

Tell me to f**koff as i'm nosey but i'm sure others wonder at your true identity, as there must be an interesting person under all the E30 stuff.
Howcome u don't go to a meets? I'm not gay before anyone says

Brain is a wonder with technical know how! Nearly as good as Ove from the old BEN who used to know everything, even random clearances/weights/measurements of the top of his head! I think Ove used to work in a factory that made [components/parts for] E30's!

Big up the e30 tech guru's!

i forgive mate!

Um a piece of metal went straight through it in october last year. It f**kin hurt! that pic is after the first operation when they removed the metal and my natural lense as it was wrecked. I now have an artifical lense in that eye which was the second operation. I'm going back and forth to the hospital now 9 months on. The eye sight is pretty good considering what happened, i was told i was too close to losing it totally. So i am lucky.

Sight out of it is probably 60-70% is my guess maybe less. It's frustrating in a way because my eye sight was 20/20, proper perfect!!!

Simon
I was working on a landrover with a mate ,he was undoing a jubilee clip with a screwdriver but cos it was awkward he had the screwdriver facing around the wrong way.well i suppose you can guess what happened next . It slipped and went straight into the white bit of his eye. i had to drive ten miles to A&E with him screaming every time i went over a bump cos he had to hold the screwdriver where it was .
I was pissing myself with laughter the whole way, especially when he sneezed!!!

There's a full list in the c E30 hndbook that comes with the car (with only two mistakes/ommissions for late UK models), but I haven't come across alist as such in Haynes.
The big advantage of a colour photo, is that you can see at a glance if any is wrong.

The glovebox lamp is moved to fuse 4. Important, because it's holder is prone to short circuiting and takes out the indicators, and the last place you would look for an indicator fault is in the glovebox light circuit.
The roof/windows are listed as fuse 17. This only applies when the doors are shut. With the doors open they are both on 28.

I'm guessing you have now invested in some goggles? 8O

I can only imagine how much it hurt mate, my eyes start irritating me when I leave my contact lenses in too long! So when a piece of metal goes in... :x
