..which really spoils my touring. I can clean them up and they look fine for a short while, then they corrode again. Any ideas how to stop them from rusting chaps ?

yeah the same happens to mine, the key is to buy/fab stainless items which are more expensive.

Get some solvol Autosol and a quick polish after you have washed the car brings them up like new :) Other than that you need some VHT paint

Autosol all the way.

Good stuff with a bit of elbow grease.
