Ah, so i wont have to make up a crazy front of engine bay master cylinder setup if i get the brakes off a 530 say?

how come your getting rid of your conversion? fragging the car or putting something faster in? how much you looking at for it? might try and persuade my mate its the way to go seems as his engine is out already

It's still a complete car which I use every day. The MOT is up Jan 26th, after which it is toast. Whole car £400.

There's absolutely no room for that kind of brakebooster at the firewall. Remote setup or hardly modified firewall & small master cylinder are the only options.

Bolted all things to the "main" engine, gonna drop it in in couple of days and get it started;

Yeeehaaa! Got her up and running today

Had some minor problems with engine wiring but nothing major. The engine is "bit loud" with only half-welded manifolds but at least one can hear she's running.

Fuel pressure regulator leaks so that's minor drawback :-/


Anyways, this is good starting point for new year

lol! No need for heated washer jets then! ;) I used that area to mount my PAS resevoir after extending the lines to it. Fit's much better. Well done jon!

I'we got one question. Does oil filter need to be in straight vertical position or could I place it to some other place, and extend the feed lines?

Got almost all wiring done yesterday, now check control works perfectly and all other gauges too.
Today i'll bolt differential on place and start doing exhaust pipes (the backbox i've already from last summer..)

I think it can be like \ or / but not much more tilted. But yes, you can extend the lines and mount it for example on strut tower.

One guy who did the M60 swap dynoed over 310hp with stock 325 pump so it's good enough for the job. Of course it won't hurt you if you've bigger pump..

Well i've got v8pump from e39, but only a pump, but i dont have e30 fuel pump assembly coz' someone took it out (I bought an empty shell-rolling chasy) so i don't have any idea if it fits into e30 fuel pump assembly

Sounds like drama........
The V8 also fits in the E36 but they do need subframe spacers. Also, when you space the subframe down the steering column joint doesn't quite fit the rack so this had to be extended. Alpina got around this by casting a special sump/oil pick up with the bulge at the back.

The one off sump in Alpina B8s has nothing to do with how high or low the subframe sits, it was designed because the OEM sump would simply foul the E36 subframe.

Read it again. I quote:

That to me implies the standard bulge is at the front.

Fit a standard V8 into an E36 and you need to space the subframe down because as it stands, the engine is too tall due to the sump. All V8's come with a front or central sump bulge, E36's do not.
The spacers needed are 30mm deep and this also puts the driveline out of alignment. It's a horrible bodge up. You can reduce this to a far more acceptable 20mm by moving some bits such as the idle control valve.

I would say the X5 sump could be made to fit with some work.

Yes the B8 sump is in the front, and the oilpump has it's driving wheel on the backside of the pump. Quite weird construction but seems to work fine. Much more problems doing M60 swap to E36 than to E30..

Anyways, i've almost finished the exhaust. 2x2,5" from the engine to the center, then X pipe and after that suppression to 2x2". One rear muffler, no idea what the sound will be like but i think it'll be just fine
All the wiring is done also, so next thing i've to do is to check rear waterhoses and some little things. Then it'd be time to get the engine out again and weld everything properly and get the engine bay painted.
Unfortunately that'll be some time around march, so probably no updates coming until then

Some little update;
-Exhaust done
-Flywheel will come next week (one guy here in Finland did it using S62 flywheel as example. S62 wheel weights 18kg, this new one will be around 7 kg ). I'm going to use stock S62 clutch plate and S38B36 Sachs racing pressure plate. It'll hold up to at least 500Nm..
-All the little fastenings etc are done in engine bay, wiring is clear and needs to be finished after i pull the engine out in the end of february.

Also cleaned the garage a bit and got nice pic of it

Got the flywheel today, weight reduction 18kg -> 8kg so the engine should be a bit more rev-happier



I'm using stock S62 clutch plate (have to buy new one, old used in picture above) and S38B36 Sachs Racing pressure plate. Should work fine but we'll see, have to buy new clutch master cylinder first, though..

Actually, i've these lying around in my garage but fitting them to M60 is far from easy and requires standalone ECU.. It'd be better to swap S62 to the engine bay but it damn those engines cost a fortune.

Standalone Megasquirt is way to go i was tolk 1k€ for the job. You delive and pick up car later notthing else
But that's here in slovenia

Yes i could do megasquirt by myself also but i don't think it's worth the work. My cabrio is for cruising, after all it doesn't matter if it makes 250 or 350hp, the V8 sound and overall feeling is The Thing
