Race Prep in Essex

Hi, I've been recommended to a guy in Braintree in essex to a guy who preps bm's for racing, but i dont have a number appartently he looks after a khumo car??

Does any one know him- believe the company is called something like- m-tech????

I am after someone to weld in my cage locally, its a custom cages multipoint, and weld my sunroof shut.

If no one knows who I mean but knows someone in essex capable please advise

excellent- does anyone have any experience of him??

Is he good to fit a cage?? rather important that I trust the person doing this

Dom (Taffy) has had loads of work done by him and my car is in his workshop as we speak! His workshop isn't exactly F1 material, but he knows his stuff and has been doing it for years! I thuink there's about 6 or 7 cars in Kumho and in Milltek that have or currently use him!

I had him fit my fully weld in cage - and he did a very good job. Very neat welds.

does anyone know if he has fitted a custom cage to and E30- looks like a serious job to get this cage in- it is involved to say the least!

Not sure weather to look at a simpler cage, but the custom cage does look to have maximum protection??

Will call him tomorrow, and dont worry I'll say who sent me

He's done some pretty mad cages and as we speak, he has a Milltek car being done with full on custom cages cage that has the rear bar going down to the top of the diff just like the ex-touring cars! No worries at all in him knowing how to fit the cage mate.

Go for the custom cages one that has lots to it and if you're still not sure..take a look a the other thread in here called "Mallory Accident" and it might help you to make your mind up!

yeh read that on SELOC, very nasty but a tribute to the safety kit! glad there was no serious injury

do you know who's miltek car he has at the mo? Thats the series i'm entering next year, didn't realise anyone my way was prepping a car??

The Kumho car he looks after is my car & another fellow racer. I've been using Dave since the beginning of '04 & he provided race support to us all last season & on a few occasions this year. I've used a few BMW engineers & come across a fair few other so called mechanics & Dave is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most experienced BMW engineers anywhere & that is why most of the Kumho guys (including alot of the mechanics) turn to Dave.

He fitted a custom cage Multipoint to my car & also to a few of the Kumho & Milltek cars so no worries on that front.

A word of advice though, if you're going to the trouble of welding in a decent cage, you might as well change the roof skin at the same time. It's a bit more but it'll be easier to fit the cage & you'll end up with a much neater & more importantly get rid of all that excess weight (above the line) as a result, it really is so much better.

I believe the Milltek car is Len Colley's (might be wrong though)

Just spoke to Dave, what a helpful nice guy, big thumbs up to him.

Will def be getting him to do my car, and he said he'd collect as i'm local.

who's got cars there at the mo? I'm going down to have a chat with him this week and look at his miltek car he is doing.

He's actually doing 2 for me, as i'm prepping a second car for my mate to race.

Mine's not there but John Wilcocks's M3 is there as is Paul's & he has hte Milltek car there as well as well as 2million other vehicles in various states of completion.

A small note of warning on Taffs top suggestion above, in the Milltek series you can change the roof-skin but the replacement must be the same materials/thickness/weight as the original, no body panels can be modified from their original construction, shape etc.

I looked at this for purely cosmetic reasons myself as it would be easier to install the cage and also no need to weld in the sunroof etc, but didn't really work out cost-effective.

the guy thats doing is familiar with the miltek regs as well so dont worry.

anyway may not have a sunroof on the new car
