how exactly?!

this is (hopefully) an easy one for you guys... but i've drawn a bit of a blank. My E30 needs some welding down in the front corner behind the pedals. So obviously I gotta get the carpets out first, except the accelerator seems to be attached to the floor. How does it come out?

I want to get as much of the work done as i can before taking it to the bodyshop, but i just can't work the accelerator out

Thanks guys
Blake

the accelerator is clipped in from the bottom, and there is a circlip on the accelerator rod bit at the back which once removed, it will slide out.

I took my carpet out last week (anyone want it- grey good nick).

Its very very simple, remove all trim (centre consoles, door rubbers etc), remove drivers side foot first, undo the clip holding the accelerator pedal from the back bar bit, slip the pedal to the right to free the upright. Lift carpet over pedal.

Remove pax side next then get a mate and pull from under centre dash (tunnel) there are some handy holes there. Once loose lift over gear stick and hand brake and hey presto its out :D

The accelerator pedal clips in at it's base, and officially is not re-useable.
In practice you can remove it by releasing two of the four clips with a flat blade screwdriver, and twisting it out.
The carpet can be pulled out from under the heater, but it's very difficult to get it back.
Easiest is to cut around the carpet under the heater and let that bit stay.
Be carefull of wires under the carpet if you do this.

good stuff! cheers guys i'll give it a go in the next few days. removing the plastic pedal from the accelerator bar was easy enough, but somehow (and this may be edue to either a, me not trying hard enough b, the carpet being clipped to the floor or c, the carpet beigh trapped by the heater or something i hadn't removed yet...

as i say i'll give it a shot :D

I just had them bits welded (from the outside). Didnt fully remove the carpet, just removed the pedal with a screwdriver and held the carpet back with a dustpan brush!!

It was then my job to lean into the corner with a welding glove and put out the flames as the paint on the floor caught alight! :?

I can tell you it was smokey in there! I started shitting myself when the smoke started appearing from all around the back of the dash and i thought it was proper on fire!!!!

Its all good now, although i think it may be time to get a new air freshener!
