ASC is Anti Skid Control I believe
It's an electronic stability aid and was never avaliable on an E30.
Basically it stops the car from spinning around when you lose control

Bollocks to this 24v scrap!
The ASC (automatic stability control) on my E36 only controls the braking system and can apply any brake on any wheel to keep the car stable. You can have ASC with ATC (automatic traction control) this will then reduce engine power aswell, should the wheels spin up.
So when I drive round a bend and the inside wheel spins up the ASC applies the brake to that wheel to slow it down. This all has the net effect that my rear pads wear down as fast as my fronts if I drive like a fool everywhere.

If I can't fix it I'll f**k it up so bad nobody can!!

Don't confuse with DSC ('Dynamic Stability Control').
