Dudes.... I'd value any sensible thoughts you've got on this one please.
My Touring's the first car I've had in 20-odd years without a glass sunroof. It's one of the few things that bugs me about the car.
Should I:-
1. Live with the tin one.
2. Investigate the possibility of getting a prespex one made.
3. Get an aftermarket one fitted and try to sell the bits that are removed (it's electric).
I did read on the old forum that there are a few E30's running 'round North America with factory fitted glass roofs, but I can't find anything on ETK. I've even been in touch with Webasto and they were about as much help as a chocolate fireguard!
Cheers
Stuart.

whats the appeal of a glass sunroof?

ive had a few cars with them and have been mightily glad on bright days of the interior sliding cover some have.

Well this is what i know. they were fitted to E28 5's and were called moonroofs :teehee: They are rare but u can find cars with them

Just an idea would one of these fit an E30?

I quite like the idea myself. Could be alot of work but cool. Persex sounds an like an interesting avenue.

And all E30 sunroofs fooking rust too!

You say glass ones break easy.. I was towing a mate to a garage once in his RST.. (surprised to hear one of them being towed!!) and he had been messing about with the sunroof, and had only rested it in place... anyhow, when we got to approx 60mph.. the sunroof lifted out and bounced down the road, we stopped round the corner and walked back.. expecting to find it smashed to pieces... but were surprised to see it still in one piece!!!! 8O 8O 8O 8O

yup my sunroof has rusted to shit aswell im lookin at options of ripping it out and filling the hole with something. either new metal or something like a piece of polycarbonate fixed in place.

I have a glass one, I think it may have been dealer fitted though? I would rather have the metal one though :D . The glass is ok though and it has the interior slide over cover bit, and you can let the light in on cloudy days. I'd probably rather have no sunroof if I had a choice.

Also think they had moonroof's in the US too, they get mentioned on other forum's regular, so no need to get one specially made!

Well the sun roof in my 318i doesn't have a single spot of rust on it... However I don't have a sunroof in my 325i - I've got A/C !!!!!!!!!

I've got A/C and a sunroof  . Mine doesn't have any rust in it either and it's an '85 so it's been around for a while.

I've tried all sorts of permutations of model, territory and year and still can't find a glass panel on the on-line ETK. Any volunteers look on the "proper" ETK for me please??
Found one on a E28, but the metal panel version is a different part number to the metal panel E30 one (thought it would be, 'twas a long-shot!).

I'm not taking mine out or fitting the new one. I imagine that would not be a nice job to do, especially if the electrics and stuff were different? I also read that thread a while ago about welding it up and most people said it looks ugly and leaks water :( .

But if you want to come to Australia and swap them over I'll consider it :D .

to take the panel out is 6 botls and is a piece of piss! I doubt any of it is different mate. BMW just obviously thought that our E30's didn't need anymore light in the cabin because we get sunshine here 24/7 not.

Oh well worth a try!
