I am going to be swapping a 2.0l inj from a h reg into my d reg 1.6 carb, what I wanted to know is once all the running gear is swapped what electrics/wiring need to be changed other than the ecu and possible the wire in pin 20 of the plug. From another thread I have found that the fuel pump wiring should already be in place which will save time, but my main concern is the diffrence in age between the 2 cars. Will the age diffrence cause wiring problems or should it be plug it all up and start her up? Also will there be any diffrence in the fusebox/relays etc?
Thanks in advance.

Fuel pump wiring is in place, but will be for an older type external pump. I extended this wiring to run an m40 in tank pump.

For anyone else thats intrested heres the link:http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... highlight=

You'll probably have the older style smaller engine loom socket on your car, and your new engine loom will have the more modern 20 pin C101 plug. The best way around this is to get the engine loom socket from a scrap facelift car, with the wiring chopped inside the fusebox, and fit this to your car, with the joints inside the fusebox.
There are a couple of wires you will have to re route in the car, but none that are essential for the engine to run.
The essential wires are: the plain green (ignition power), the green/purple (12 volts out from the engine loom to fuse 11 and then to the fuel pump), and the black/yellow (start signal, to the starter motor.)

Thanks,so its mainly the ignition switch/backbox that will need re-wiring.With regards to the plug do you mean remove my fusebox /plug and re-wire the facelift one into the original pre facelift loom?

Yes, cut off the plug you have, pull the wires back into the fusebox, add the new type plug exactly as it's fitted on later cars, and make the joins (solder and heatshrink sleeving) inside the bottom of the fusebox.

My d reg 1.6 carb had the newer c101 plug seen in the picture, so you may be lucky

I recently broke a 318 carb on an E plate, and that had the new type plug. My first E30 was also a 318 on a D plate, but I can't remember what the connector was. It was a looong time ago!

 Hopefully it has, will save a lot of work. Also just remembered that I fitted 2 new wishbones to the 316 will these be compatible with the 320 running gear might as well use them they was fitted just before it came off road 4 years ago probably only done 30 miles maximum.
Thanks for the advice with the plug, fingers crossed :D

Front wishbones are the same on all E30's, except for the M3 and 325 touring, which uses aluminium alloy ones.
The alloy and steel ones have the same critical dimensions and fixings, and steel ones are often used as a direct replacement for the (very expensive) alloy ones.

Thanks Brianmoooore, would of been a waste if I could not use them.Other than replacing the obvious engine parts whilst the engine is out,is there anything else on the running gear that would be worth while replacing whilst being removed.Have not got the money for poly bushes at the moment but is there any other things to check

Consider changing the sump gasket on your M20 before you fit it, as it's not easy with the engine in place.
Nothing else needs to be changed as a matter of course, but check that you don't fit any parts that are badly worn or on their last legs.
Clutch, rubber coupling on the back of the gearbox, gearchange linkage and propshaft centre bearing mount are things that come to mind.

Thanks just reminded me that its got a short shift on it that was making it difficult to find gears.Clutch is all good so it will just be the other things that need checking.Might get the garage to check these now and pick the parts up from ECP if they need changing.
