e36 engine

You need to make sure that you get the 1.8 engine (M42) other wise it's alot more work if you get a 1.9 (m44). in any case you'lll need to swap over manifolds, probably rocker cover and sump. Also swap anything else that looks different to be sure it'll work.

As far as I'm aware, the sump needs swapping, which means the front pulleys will need to be swapped in order to aviod the pickup pipe and dipstick too. The inlet manifold can stay, but the E30 item is often considered better. I think the exahaust manifold will need to be swapped also.
O/T Alburglar where did you get your slipper from, that's exactly what my car needs!

M42 - rightness! with proper 4.27 LSD
I used the E30 M42 Loom and ECU.Alburglar wrote:Do you use the e30 m42 loom and e36 m44 ecu - or do you have to swap to e36 loom too?
You don't want an E36 M44 system as the engine and wiring is different, you could use an E36 M42 system (upto 1995 ish) and run all the E36 stuff, DISA inlet, Lambda probes and knock sensing. I've got an E36 loom and sensors, inlet etc. and tempted to try it, but looks like lots of wiring. You would need to use a non EWS (security) ECU or get the ecu un-locked.
