Does anybody know of a conversion using a v8 lexus engine in a e30. Moving the brake booster seems to be the biggest problem.

What engine is that? Is it the Toyota Soarer engine? The Soarer V8 engine is all alloy (should be light) and supposed to be fairly decent. I think it is dohc and 32v as well?
Not what I would be doing but people put in M5 V8's so this is probably a cheaper way to get a similar thing.

lemme tell u a little secret... why not put a 4.4 bmw v8 in.... 286hp....
and it will drop straight in on alpina B8 (e36 alpina v8 with 4.6 v8 engine) mounts!! they are expensive but u know 100% it will drop in! with NO bodywork!
i want to do this but have been reliably advised that these engines can be fragile cos og didgy leccy thermostats!

You've answered your own question, Karan. Much as I hate seeing non BMW bits on a BM, I doubt if reliability will be a problem with the Toyota lump.Karan wrote: why not put a 4.4 bmw v8 in.... have been reliably advised that these engines can be fragile

i think sometimes people look at engine swaps as "more power and simplicty" but if your going to the effort of an engine swap you might aswell try lose weight aswell to me thats more of an issue even if it means a bit more work.

A Lexus V8 is not only one the strongest v8 engines ever made in standard form (forged crank, strong rods, 6 bolt mains) but in Austrlia at least is very cheep to pick up with low km (around $2000 Aust). It also makes 300 hp standard. I just want to know if anyone out knows of one, and what tech isues with moving brake booster ect. Have already bought big brake kit from Ireland Engineering. P.S. Engine wieghs only 170 KG. (370 lb)

a ford 302 with alloy heads is strong and light.
only thing with old yankie v8's is they arent the most technically advanced engines and could do with some of the internals changing etc to allow more revs. but itf 5500rpm is your thing itd be fine.
but the piss cheapness of them and the tuning parts definately ways heavier in the favour of the american v8's.
an all alloys LS GM engine would be very very nice.

I would draw the line at lifting up a BMW bonnet and seeing "Ford" looking at me. "Cosworth" poosibly, but Ford, never.

Could be an option if easy big power and torque is what you are after, I think there was a thread about this a while ago?Rearwheel_nick wrote:a ford 302 with alloy heads is strong and light.

Personally though those type of American engines are my least favourite engine in the world. I really couldn't stand to have one in my car, especially when they don't rev. The M20 doesn't rev enough for me so I wouldn't want to go something that revs less.
