boot tension springs

Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

Is there any way of retensioning the boot springs as mine now won't hold it up after refitting m tech 2 spoiler Cheers Keith

You can move them back a notch which will help hold it up better, Just be carefull as they have a lot on tension on them, I've got a nice cut from where it grabbed my finger and pulled me into the trunk :roll:

Keith,

I'm not sure if it's possible to re-tension the original springs.

BMW fitted different springs on M-Tech2 equipped cars.

Cheers i'll let you know if you can. the straw that broke the camels back so to speak was fitting the optional boot cover which covers all the inside boot lid area

What's the part number on that item? Haven't seen one in the U.S.

BMW part number 51 49 1 916 246 - Only available for the small (standard) tool kit.

It's secured to the boot (trunk) lid using BMW part 51 41 1 870 718.

an alternative is to remove the bars altogether and fit 2 bonnet gas struts - one each side. requires some drilling and a couple of brackets to be folded up and bolted in, not difficult stuff.
