how common are these seats. Im thinking it is very common.

has it gone 2 far for a retrim? I havent looked into the retrim yet. It has to be the entire seat though as all the material is badly worn

any thoughts?

Has the 4 pot type got thicker 'black' striping. I got caught out by the two types before, luckerly I only travelled 5 mins to find out.

They have a kind of speed-block pattern to the diagonal, like this:

Oh right, not quite the type that I was referring to, I have seen the above as well. There must be loads of variations then. The type I refer to are like the OP's but the black lines are thicker(2-3mm).

The type they stuck in late 4-pot Lux's, equivalent to the late SE blue or red pinstripe stuff?

All you need to find is another passenger sports seat with the same cloth. Theres enough of them out there. Si13 has just sold entire set of touring seats in this very cloth for what Si??? 70 quid? They are a peice of p1ss to strip down to the frames and then you use the mint passenger sections (and foam) on your drivers seat. Evenings work.

That brings me back to the problems with being in N. Ireland.

is it just the seat frames that would be different even if they came from a cab or touring?

you won't get that fabric in a cab (AFAIK). If your frames had it then yes, you need a drivers seat frame but if the frames okay, all you need is a good sports seat in anthracite cloth stripe.

Touring and 4-door are the same, 2-door and convertible obviously have tilt mechs (convertibles don't recline as far though).

Regardless, any would do the trick - you're looking to swap the upholstered sections over on to your frame. If you find a seat to suit, use the back rest complete; if it's a 2dr / convertible seat just have to chop the tilt lever(s) off and use your existing seat back panel.
