How long has this been the policy?
I have had prices and quotes from you guys in the past for items shipped to Oz which you have been quite happy to do. I would appreciate an answer to this as BMW UK is about 1/4 of the price for items that BMW Australia is. I have found this forum to be a great place to get info and parts to get a job done on an E30, but sounds like this is no longer the case.

Your prices are a hell of a lot cheaper then here in Australia which makes importing viable. Just wondering why you don't send stuff to Australia - we have the same queen you know
Surely just need to box it up, give me a price and send it once I have paid by Paypal (much like eBay)? Why would this process be any different that if I lived in the UK????
I reckon you would pick up a bit of business here by doing this.

That said, I have a friend in Manchester so might be able to set something up but obviously going to be more expensive and quite a hassle.

It wold certainly help everyone if ye shipped to Australia. Bmw prices here are ridiculous - 3 times the price for certain things.

1. Yeah, been reading there's a world recession somewhere, obviously this is not a problem in Cheltenham, England. Obviously if the volume increases for orders from "the rest of the world" new staff and increased productivity and profits for CotswoldBMW I would think. Taking on a part-timer/casual and growing that side of the business - I would be suggesting a keen young Mum while her kids are at school could be a better prospective employee too, if the PC stuff doesn't get in the way. Or some ANZAC goes to England/Germany and does it for us all.

2. Shouldn't the VAT component be removed from the pricing as it is "exporting"?

Good point, would save me even more money EXCEPT I can't buy direct??

but hes not exporting so the vat would stand . if a 3rd party in the uk was to receive the parts and send them ,as cotswold suggest ,on to australia the vat would need to be paid

if i was receiving parts on your behalf, the vat and postage for sending them on would need to be covered so you would be paying the prices he quoted me with vat plus whatever it cost for me to send them to you. i offered as a occasional help free of charge but wouldnt be able to do it all the time. if you guys sorted out an order between you so it could all be sent as 1 large delivery rather than several bits and bobs.
ive no idea why cotswold wont send direct...thats obviously a matter for them to say.

We Have had a policy of not sending items out of the UK since I have been with the company 4 and half years now. We used to a long time ago before i started but due to problems and cost we no longer do.

I think the Aussie and Kiwi guys mean to say the VAT shouldn't be charged if items were sent direct, but you are correct, if we were to have you or someone else in the UK fprward them for us we would have to lump the %17.5. This is just one of the facts of life, but I still think for certain items it would be cheaper to wear it.
I can give you one example of Aussie pricing from BMW. An AC evaporator temp switch for an '84 323i, about one inch cube with a prong hanging off, $550 AUD (around 250 quid), and would cost about a fiver to post. Not sure on the price of these in the UK, but about $50 US from the states. Sometimes the prices make no sense, some things are fairly cheap at the dealer, others are not, but it is always worth checking with the local dealewr before sourcing from the UK or the US.

I too don't mind sending stuff on your behalf, we have pretty reliable couple of guys in our dispatch department at work so all I have to do is pack it up and they will tell me the cheapest way to get it over to you.

I'm not entirely sure atm. I've just worked out that its only around £20 to send a cam from here and they are cheaper and more readily available over here I think. I need a regrind for my 205.

Here's a scary fact for BMW owners in Australia:
A selection of items Cotswoldbmw quoted me on came to about £83 (incl VAT)
The exact same selection from local BMW agent came to AUS$621 which translates to £290

A pair of rear bumper brackets from Cotswoldbmw is £15.30, the exact same items from BMW here is £78

I figured there would be a difference but this is outrageous.
My issue is, of course, that Cotswoldbmw won't deliver to Australia

Interestingly Pelican Parts in the US are competitively priced and will deliver at a reasonable rate. Anyone had much experience with them??

I have considered using Pelican as well. My latest price horror story is with M3 control arm bushes which from Cotswolds are about $48 Aussie, but at the local dealers here are $304 plus tax. I for one can't see 250 dollars worth of shipping for BMW Australia to get two pieces of rubber here!

Let me know how you get on with Pelican, I would be interested to know how they are.

Pelican are very good alright, quite a few people I know use them. I'd still like to get certain genuine Bmw parts though. I rang Bmw here in Brisbane and they wanted 25 bucks for the front towing eye cover, cotsworld are only 10 bucks for the same tiny cover.

Bloody thieves here so they are. Cotsworld would make a tidy amount of money if they shipped here and most things I've got posted from the UK only take a week or so to get here.

Nothing wrong with Pelican parts. I heard many good reports on them.

I will give Pelican parts a try - especially for items that are hard to get in good condition from a wreckers yard (ie. chrome trim, bumper mounts, etc)
Fortunately, one of the mechanics from the local BMW Autohaus has a little side business (BMWreck) and has sorted me out with a few bits and pieces and his healthy knowledge of all things BMW.
I believe his business is going on line shortly so will keep you all posted on that, and my experience with Pelican parts

poolnoodle - have you tried BMAParts in the US? I have bought many thousands of dollars of bits from them with no issues. Similarly cheap prices. Send an email to patrick@bmaparts.com and ask for a quote on these parts.
