I've just had a go :D Immense, 4 up immediate shove in any gear, and fook me does the speedo wind up quick!

What a lovely beast to drive didn't feel like a heavy turd either. Really really comfy sports seats. Nicely weighted steering. Ride was good also on the runflats. Nice chunky steering wheel. Feels like a tank, nice build as you'd expect

I really enjoyed it, they have been the only new beemer thats really tickled me in recent years. Driving one now means it's gonna be a must when they get a bit cheaper and i get more money!

My only gripe would be the engine/exhuast note could be a touch louder for my liking and it sounds lovely when you can hear it.

I didn't get to give it some serious gip but you don't want to bend you bro-in-laws 30k chariot!

i've only driven poverty spec 1 series and i must say, even amongst the lower eschelons they are still good cars that handle well, although the traction control did seem to kick in rather early

Si, i've been using the bro in laws 120d M sport (07 plate) 3 door and i was mightily impressed. Have to say though, the deisel may not be for me. It ran out of steam in 1st just when you needed it. 3rd 4th and 5th though it was superb and the torque in 6th was excellent. Nice spec as well, White 3 door on the 17's with black leather and all the bells. I'm hooked but maybe a 120i not a d

I'd love a go in one. Like many others a 120d is as close as I have been

I always raved about how good the seats and steering was though, so glad thats consistant in the range. Turbo motors certainly appeal to me, if not the BMW NA die hards.

I'm quite a fan of the 1 coupe. The 135 is a serious weapon. I seem to remember it being mentioned in the same company as the M3. Proper chariot!

I test drove a 130i 5 door last year prior to wifey buying a 118i. Slithery back end on straight line acceleration on a wet slip road - bloody brilliant. As I say wifey decided to get a 118i instead :(

I haven't tried a 135i yet but was mightily impressed with the 123d I had a go of earlier in the year.

Im not a fan of the 1 series, but after driving 135tii I can hand on heart say just as fast and more focused drivers car than the new M3, infact its soo good it more deserves an M badge the M3 should be called a Lux instead

I got to try one a few months back - was fun. When they get down to the 10-15k mark, they will be bargainous.

However, I wouldn't let myself hang around the dealership too long as with BMWs new performance parts catalogue you can easily spec one of these up past £40k 8O

Been reading up on Brian Laban's one - and like some of the options (body kit etc.). Not sure about the steering wheel yet - nearly £700 plus VAT fitted! 6 pot brakes on a factory car = 8)

I think the 135i will become the heroes chariot if it proves reliable. Big power / torque as standard plus scope for some chassi and breathing mods to sharpen it up.

Doesn't really count, but I had a go in my sister's 123d coupe over Christmas. Lovely car and remarkably quick. I could easily get used to driving one all of the time.

Has anyone else pulled up behind a 1-series in trafic?

The concave part of the tailgate makes the reflection of the front of your car upside down!

Where did you drive the 135i? Because I had a 335i M Sport Coupe which I loved, but the M3 is ultimately a more focussed driver's car. 335d M Sport Coupe is still the better all-rounder though.

I dont like the nomal 1 series, but the coupe and cabs look good. I cant help but wonder if BMW looked
back at the success of the E30 and realised a boot lid was needed rather than that big arse on the back !!!! LOL
