Happy new near people...

Just want to know what is asked for when changing the size of your engine for the dvla...??

Anything special requested if you were downsizing.. like from a 2.9 to a 1.4 etc??

Any help appreciated

Thanks

hi zizzle. if you look at your v5c (reg. cert./logbook), second page, under section 7, all you have to do is complete section 23 (date of change), 24 (with the new c.c.) and 28 (new engine no.) and then sign and date section 8 at the bottom of the page, then send off to DVLA. :)

if your downsizing to a level that will drop your road tax band they will most probably want to check it out.they dont like to lose revenue.

hmm, an SVA(BIVA) would be a concern if it were my car, wouldn't like to be lumbered with a Q plate for whatever bizzarre reason the tester had that week. i would change the engine and inform the DVLA but possibly keep the current tax band if they didnt automatically change it themselves. i doubt they would.

OOO Feck.. but say you had a 2.7 done? the engine number would be the same so they wouldnt query it right?

However if you happen to lower the engine capacity theyd chase you up..!

My Mate (coughs) was just thinking cheaper insurance on a VR6 ... if he just said it was a 1.4! But if theyre gonna be ars8y about it.... ill tell him to forget it!

going upwards isnt a problem cos there gonna get more money out of ya or they aint gonna loose money but when u tell them ur reducing ur engine size they loose money so course there gonna check it

not got time read it yet but i wouldnt bother sending anything if they simply sent back the v5 without changing the cc. i would just keep the accompanying letter as proof they couldnt be arsed.

thinking about though the insurance angle could be sticky.

the insurance wasnt a problem for me. i told them id fitted a cosworth engine and they quoted accordingly, they didnt bother about what was on the v5.

a few mates have tried to change cubic capacity on bikes and scooters and have needed a letter
from a garage/workshop confirming the work was carried out......

In the good old days, you could even change a vin number without any hassle !!
