adit wrote:fascinating thread! i just had to go and check my genuine alpinas, out of curiosity (no, they're not on the car, i'm not THAT keen). on one spoke on the back it reads; RONAL and on the spoke next to it; 94 12
lastly, are there no such things as genuine alpina 17" 4-stud wheels, are they all replicas? i'm buying some that the zoner swears are genuine 17s which he had on his 325.i guess i'll have to check properly first.
for anyone interested, the RONAL stamp is on the fourth spoke to the left of the tyre valve when looking from behind (as barry's pic above).
i just spoken to the seller of the 17s and he says they are a "multifit" arrangement (fit four or five stud).
£175 got me these

so what of the wheels by borbet then?

600+ for a set of 4 original 16"s plus 200+ for a refurb
i'd be more inclined to buy a set of these for 1100, which'll give me 2x 7j, 2x 8j.
thinking of this look, but I do like the refurbed 15" bbs though

the plastic bit below the alpina badge is the plug for the hole which houses the (metal) lockskipunda wrote:
erm, it's got the plastic lock on it. Made under license by borbet. As far as i'm concerned this is the real deal

so, officianados, is the correct position of the centre cap with the alpina emblem directly in line with the valve with the lock directly below the emblem
5 stud Softlines all have the valve under the cap, I think some of the 5 stud classic which were on E36's also had the cap hidden but that's where my knowledge gets fuzzy. I don't think I"ve seen any 4 studs with them hidden.adit wrote:erm...18s i think, adi. just seen some on ebay. hope this helpsadit wrote:

the ones with the hidden valve became available on the late E39s - i belive the new style alpinas have them as standard (the ones with the lock hidden behind the alpina badge on a swivel) whereas the old style (ie the type that we know on the E30 and E36 etc) had a normal visible valve.
