Easy to do, there's been quite a few threads on fitting cruise, I've done it myself, as have a few other zoners.
Type cruise control, and check the search for all terms box, and search tecnhical forum...

The E30 doesn't have the cruise loom fitted as standard, you'll need to get the loom as well as the actuator, clutch switch (if fitting to a manual car) steering column stalk, control unit and the green connector for the instrument cluster.

the e34 has loom built in, the e30 doesn`t318-is wrote:the current issue of total bmw has an article on how to fit it to a five series e34, dunno if it wud be the same in e30 tho
cheers for that, should've searched the tech threads first...
only thing I'm not sure about is the 'small green connector' as I aint got anything green with my kit and don't see how anything else can be added (in so far as the loom seems complete).
Either way found pretty much all the info I need to fit it, including pictures - so thanks

Out of the 4 E30's I've had, only one had one already fitted for some reason, if it's missing, the part number is 62 11 1 372 218, only a couple of quid.tjd200 wrote:so hopefully it's already there.
if not, guess a trip to the dealers...
thanks

It may well be. It's a while since I was in there.Simon wrote: That's the one, and I'm almost sure it's the middle connector on the right...
Mind you, the cruise loom will probably have a shaped plug that will only go in the correct hole anyway
Ian.

I'm not sure what all the different connections are for, but most (if not all) provide an output proportional to speed. The cruise control uses this for a number of things:chu346 wrote:What exactly does the green connector do? I got one on my car and i think i've plugged the wire back in incorrectly. Does it have anything to do with the speedo?
1: Cruise will not engage unless you are going over 30mph
2: Cruise will disengage if you accelerate to more than 15mph over the set speed.
3: Cruise needs to know how fast you are going to control the speed.
I believe some original E30 radio's had a speed dependant volume control, and this also plugged into the green connector.
The long pins on the back of the green connector connect directly to the circuit board on the back of the speedo head.
Ian.

Just to confuse the issue I got cruise control on my South African 325i though it's not working at the moment. There's a plug in the middle and the bottom of the green connector.
I've put it back in the top once and didn't seem to make a difference although I noticed that the speed indication on the onboard computer was reading way out. Car came fitted with Clifford alarm so I'm wondering if they screwed the cruise up when they put it in?
